Victoria University

Victoria University (VU) is one of the few universities in Australia to offer courses in both TAFE and higher education.Through our strong industry connections and leadership in sport education, we provide opportunities for every individual to achieve success on their own terms, and prepare them not just for a career, but for life.ictoria University (VU) is the university of the west.

Victoria University achieved university status in 1991, but our preceding institutions date back to 1916. We are one of Australia’s few dual-sector universities. Today, we have over 40,000 enrolled higher education, and vocational education and training students studying on our campuses.

VU has received the following rankings:

  • ranked in the world’s top 2% (Times Higher Education – THE – World University Rankings 2016/2017/2018)
  • ranked 56 in the world’s top universities aged under 50 (THE Young University Rankings 2017).

Being a dual-sector university means that our students can easily pathway from vocational education to higher education - such as from a certificate or diploma course through to an undergraduate degree or even a postgraduate qualification by coursework or research.

Admission Criteria & Eligibility

You will need to provide evidence that you have achieved one of the following levels of English language proficiency:

  • IELTS (Academic module): Overall score of 6.0 (no band less than 6.0)
  • TOEFL Internet: Overall score of 67. Section score no less than:
    • Listening: 12
    • Speaking: 18
    • Reading: 15
    • Writing: 21
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE): Overall score of 50-57 (no section score less than 50)
  • University of Cambridge - Advanced (CAE): Overall score of 169. No individual band less than 169.
  • VU English - English for Academic Purposes (EAP) (Level 5): achieved.

IELTS, TOEFL, PTE and CAE: These tests must be taken no more than two years prior to commencing your course.

In some cases we will accept test results from other methods of examination not listed above.

If you have completed a qualification where English was the primary language of instruction, you may be eligible for an English language exemption.
