Admission Criteria & Eligibility

To meet the English language requirements for academic programs, students must have completed:

  • BC English 12 grade of "C" or higher
  • VIU English Language Centre's Academic Preparation program
  • International Baccalaureate English HL grade of 5 or higher
  • Advanced Placement English 12 grade of 4 or higher
  • IELTS 6.0 (with no band under 5.5)
  • TOEFL 550 (with no section under 56)
  • TOEFL Computer Based Test (CBT) 213
  • TOEFL iBT 80 (with no section under 19)
  • Canadian Academic English Language assessment (CAEL) 60
  • Pearson (PTE) 54 no section below 51
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English with a minimum Cambridge English Score of 169.
  • Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English with a minimum Cambridge English Score of 169.
  • Language Proficiency Index (LPI) score 4 or higher

The High School:
All students must:

  • have completed Grade 9, or equivalent;
  • turn 15 years of age by December 31 following a September enrollment;
  • be under 19 years of age.
