University of Delhi

University of Delhi or Delhi University (DU) is a public central university located in New Delhi. It was established in 1922 by an act of the central legislative assembly.  St. Stephen’s, Hindu College and Ramjas College were the only three colleges to be a part of DU when it was formed.  The university offers around 27 undergraduate courses and has an estimated 1, 50,000 students.  It also offers around 49 trust based and non-college scholarships. The university is known for excellence in imparting Science, Humanities and Commerce studies.  It admits students on the basis of marks in 10+2 depending on the type of college a student picks.

Ranking
Delhi University has been ranked as 2nd best university to study in India, according to India Today’s poll on top 50 universities for 2016.  It has also been ranked as 3rd in the India Today Magazine in 2015. 
Campuses
DU has two main campuses: North Campus and South Campus.  The North Campus consists of 16 facilities and 84 departments, which are clustered together, while the South Campus is scattered and has fewer departments.   The North Campus is the original DU campus and the historical trio of St. Stephen’s, Hindu College and Ramjas College fall in the North Campus, while Sri Venkateswara College, LSR and Jesus and Mary College fall under South Campus.
Administration
Delhi University’s administration is sub divided into councils which look into certain activities of the university.  Some of them include:
     •    The Academic Council: Looks into academia.  
     •    Executive Council: Largest executive body of the university
     •    Finance Committee: Looks into finances
Libraries
The university has a library system called Delhi University Library System (DULS).  It contains 34 libraries, with web activity and a subscription to 29 electronic databases.
