University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) is situated in Bangalore, Karnataka. It offers around 6 undergraduate courses. Established in 1917 under the name, ‘Government Engineering College’, by Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya, the college is affiliated to the Bangalore University. It is approved by the AICTE and the Government of Karnataka. Admission of students to the undergraduate courses is entirely on the basis of merit through the Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by the state government of Karnataka. The test is conducted in May and results are declared in June. Classes begin in August.

Ranking Explanation
UVCE was ranked 40th among the top 50 Indian Government Engineering Colleges in India in 2007. In 2009, it was ranked 47th among the top 75 colleges in India by Outlook magazine. It was ranked 37th among the best engineering colleges in India as per a survey conducted by the Week in 2012.
Campus
The UVCE campus has an academic sector equipped with modern laboratories and facilities. It also has a residential area with hostels for boys and the girls. The campus also has playgrounds and auditoriums where events and functions are conducted. The campus area spans over 15 acres and houses the Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Computer Science Engineering. Civil and Architecture courses are run at Jnana Bharathi Campus.
Laboratories
The college has more than 600 computers, over hundred laser printers, around 50 photocopiers and fax machines, a cyber centre, and laboratories in all the departments. The laboratories are well-equipped with the latest equipment and are well managed.
Library
UVCE library has an impressive collection of over 2 lakh books covering various branches of Mathematics, Science and Engineering. Besides, the library also has volumes of technical journals and periodicals in different areas of Engineering. Along with the main library, each department also has its own library catering to the needs of the staff members and students.
Placement
The Placement & Training Centre of the college provides full assistance and co-operation to students for on campus placements. Students have been selected by leading organisations including multi-national and Indian companies such as Infosys, IBM, Talisma, Honeywell, TCS, Bluestar Infotech, Digital Global Soft, Future Technologies, SLK Software, Oracle Corp., Satyam Computers, Huawei Tech., Mindtree Consultants, Aditi Technologies, L&T (ECC) and Wipro Technologies, among several others.
