St Xavier's College, Ranchi

St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi is a Minority Educational Institution based on religion established and administered by the Ranchi Jesuit Province of the Society of Jesus. The College is registered by the Ranchi Province under the local title ‘Xaviers Ranchi’ under the Society’s Registration Act XXI of 1860 and affiliated to Ranchi University Ranchi.While preference is shown to the educational and cultural needs of the Minority community, admission is open to all irrespective of caste, creed and nationality. St. Xavier's College, Ranchi is a premier institution of the State of Jharkhand, imparting quality education and has remained a centre of excellence till date. This is a minority educational institution. It has been accredited by NAAC with Grade- "A" in 2013. The University Grants Commission conferred Autonomous status in 2005 and granted "College with Potential for Excellence" status in 2006.

Faculty
St. Xavier’s Ranchi has vastly experienced faculty for most of the departments.  Majority of the staff have doctorate degrees and the relatively inexperienced ones are pursuing their doctorate studies. The faculty of Arts and Sciences is highly rated at Xavier’s Ranchi.
Internal Quality Assurance Cell
The Internal Quality Assurance Cell or IQAC was created under the supervision of the head of the Institution.  The IQAC as is suggestive of the name monitors and re-evaluates the curriculum, the way of instruction and on the basis of data, and determines what a professor needs to work on, in an effort to ensure that the standard of learning does not slip down.
 
Placement
The placement cell at the college serves as an efficient interface between the college and corporations, and arranges campus placement drives and keeps the students informed about potential job opportunities.
Facilities
Identity Card
The Vice-Principal is office of the college will issue the Identity card after being dully filled-in by the candidate.
Every student shall carry the Identity Card with him/her daily to the college. Any staff members as well as other lawful authorities of the college have the right to ask a student to produce it at any time.
The Identity Card should be shown to the authorities concerned before entering the Reading room or the Laboratories.
Attestation
The forms to be signed or documents to be attested should go to the Vice Principal.
Sufficient time should be given for this process.
During the holidays no attestation will be done.
Parking
The bicycles and two wheelers are to be parked in the allotted parking places only. Students are directed to make vehicles pass.
Students are requested to lock properly their vehicles and the college does not take any responsibility if the vehicle is stolen. Students are not allowed to bring cars, vans, jeeps and other four wheelers in the college campus. The parking rules of the college have to be followed strictly. There is a requisite fee to be paid for parking.
NSS, NCC, AICUF
The college has NCC and NSS units and the students are encouraged to join these units.
NSS unit is open to girl students also.
AICUF stands for All Indian Catholic University Federation. It strives to train leaders, creates awareness about the rights and duties towards society and become ‘men and women for others’. The National Centre is in Chennai. Its membership is open to all.
Women’s Forum
The college has a well organized Women’s Forum. Girl students, especially at the degree level are earnestly exhorted to take an active part in the activities of the Forum. This Forum organizes various activities for the integrated development of the girl students like personality development seminars, career orientations, life preparation courses etc.
Kiosk
(Student Information System) Two nos. of Kisok (Touch screen computer) available for students viewing their semester result and attendance.
Photocopying Facilities
The college offers photocopying facilities for the staff and students, at the rate of Rs. 1 per normal page. This facility is available in the Xerox Room on the second floor of the Vocational Building as well as near the College gate.
Audio-Visual Education
The college provides audiovisual facilities to the teachers as well as to various societies for their activities.
Mostly thse facilities will be utilized for Vocational Courses.In the common room TV is available to view the programme.The viewing of channels will be controlled by the in-charge.
Wi-Fi Internet
24x7 hours Wi-fi Internet service for registred students
Hostel Facility
Hostel facility available for boys, along with hygienic fooding.The Mess of the Hostel is run entirely on a non-profit basis under the supervision of the Superintendent.This hostel is for the male students of St Xavier's College only. It is under the management of the College.
College Canteen
Boys and Girls are allowed to go to the canteen. A mutual respect is expected from all. Canteen is opened at 6.30 a.m.-6.00 p.m. During holidays it will remain closed. Canteen is just to provide you light refreshment; Student are advised not to sit longer than 20 minutes.
College Ground
Students are allowed to sit and relax during leisure hours but not to prolong for hours and are expected to keep the place clean.During class hours playing football, Basketball, cricket or hockey is not allowed.
Students' Grievance cell
The Student's Grievance Cell desires to promote and maintain a conducive and unprejudiced educational environment. The objectives of Students Grievance Cell include the following.
Placement Cell
The Placement Cell of St. Xavier's College, Ranchi creates a platform where students can showcase their talents which different companies seek to explore and utilise. Starting from 2003, we have successfully placed a large section of graduates who have appeared for placements. This year especially, the performance has been overwhelming.
Sxc Gym
Gym Membership only for Students & Staffs. The college offers Gym facilities for the staff and students, under the following Membership Plan (Monthly - Rs 950),(Quarterly - Rs 2600), (Half Yearly - Rs 5000), (Yearly - Rs 9000). Online Application available for Gym Membership.
College Library
The college library has more than 1 Lac books and journals. The members of the college community are exhorted to make the best use of the library subject to some conditions.
The Identity Card of the college should be produced along with a requisition slip with the request for a book.
Books from the Central Library will be issued according to the time schedule shown on the library board.
Degree as well as Honours students are allowed to borrow two books at a time. Honours students may also get books from their respective departments.
The books may be kept for a period of two weeks. A fine of 50 paise will be charged per day for late returning of books.
After the final clearance, Central Library books will not be issued except to those who deposit Rs.50/- as Caution Deposit with the Librarian. Even then books will not be issued to students who habitually break library rules. The caution money will be returned later.
The college reading room remains open on class days from 6.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. The library remains closed on Sundays and Holidays.
Sports and Games
Facilities are available in the college for games in volleyball, basketball, hockey, cricket, football, badminton and indoor games.Proper environment must be maintained in the common room while playing indoor games and while watching TV.Students should not take the newspapers, magazine away from their respective places.
