St. Joseph's College, Bangalore

St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore or St. Joseph’s is one of the oldest colleges in India, with over 125 years of history.  It was founded in 1882, by the French Foreign Mission. The college is an autonomous institution which offers around 19 undergraduate courses and has around 5000 students studying in it.  The college was awarded autonomy in 2005.  It is known for imparting excellent education for Humanities, Commerce and Science studies.  Admission to the college is based on merit.

In 2016, St. Joseph’s College ranked 8th, 12th and 28th poll for Computer Science and Information Technology, Science and Humanities studies respectively, according to India Today’s best colleges in India. Ranked 18th according to India Today’s best colleges in India For The Year 2015 In the Category of Humanities. Getting in to the college is a tough prospect, as admission is based on merit and the usual cut-off percentages are pretty high.
Library
St. Joseph’s has a well stocked library with a collection of more than 74000 books.  The college also subscribes to around 71 journals, out of which close to 55 of them are for undergraduates and the remaining 16 are for post-graduate students. The library also contains close to 200 educational CDs on different subjects which are available for the students. The library also houses a spacious and aesthetic reading room facility for both UG and PG students and for the faculty as well.  The library is also internet ready.
Hostel
The college provides hostel facilities to male students.  The hostel can accommodate around 80 students.  It is located in the college campus itself.  Hence, there is hardly any time spent on travel by hostel residents. The hostel is internet enabled and power back up is also provided to students to improve their study. The in-campus hostel also has facilities like availability of musical instruments. The hostel has a full time warden who looks after the needs of the hostellers.
Placement
Career guidance: Personality Assessment & Competency Mapping
To arrange for Personality Assessment & Competency Mapping of students. This activity entails helping students to identify various competencies they posses and enabling them to work on areas they need to improve and help them in making suitable career choices.
Training for skill development :
This objective is to organize training program for a variety of skills development required in the labor market. Workshops on knowledge and skill development for taking various competitive examinations, basic managerial skills, resume writing, Group Discussions and mock Interviews is organized.
Internships:
To establish contacts with various governments, nongovernmental and corporate sector for lectures, internships and in -house training.
Placement Interviews :
Prospective employers can contact the Placement Officer in advance and can visit the college for Campus Hiring from September to February of very year.
