St. Joseph's College, Devagiri

St. Joseph's College, Calicut was established in 1956, formerly known as Devagiri college. Accredited by NAAC with A level in 2004 and re-accredited by NAAC with 3.63 on 4 point scale in 2011.They maintained a striking balance between curricular and co-curricular activities. According to the survey conducted by India Today, Devagiri is zeroed in on as one of the top ten colleges in Kerala and SS Music channel, Chennai singled out this institution for a special episode telecast recently. St.Joseph’s College, has been imparting education for the past 55 years and is considered as one of the prestigious arts and Science College.

Library Facilities
The college has a well equipped library with more than 55,000 books and 120 periodicals. The library is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. On all working days, including Saturdays. This is a two storeyed building with content arranged according to the departments. It is completely computerised with intranet and opac powered by full-featured open-source ILS Koha.
Hostel Facilities
In the beginning the students were housed in the assembly hall of Devagiri College and the hall of Savio School. Fr. ReynoldsChempakassery, Fr.Gaston, Fr.Nestor, and Fr.Abel were the first wardens during those days.Five hostels namely the Newman, St.Joseph's, Tagore,St.Thomas, and Amala were constructed eventually. There was a common mess hall also for all the residents of the hostel near the present Visitation Convent. The hostels have served their noble cause commendably for many years and became synonymous with the brotherhood and friendliness which were the very ideals on which Devagiri College was established. Over the years facilities improved in the vicinities of the college and the number of students availing hostels decreased. All hostels except Tagore hostel were closed down.
