Sir JJ College of Architecture

Sir JJ College of Architecture is located in Nanabhai Ln, Kala Ghoda Fort in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It offers one undergraduate course in Architecture. Established in 1913, it is the first college of Architecture in Asia. The Institution takes pride in having educated architects who are now the chief founders of the Architectural Movement in India. It is affiliated to the University of Mumbai.

The origin of the college can be traced to the founding of a draftsman's class, started with a view to make students fit to be employed in an Architect's office attached to the Sir JJ School of Arts in 1896. Admission into the college is on the basis of academics, i.e. marks obtained in 10+2 or equivalent examination. Classes begin in the month of August. The Outlook magazine rated Sir JJ College of Architecture as the 2nd best Architectural colleges in India in 2012.

Campus

Campus Infrastructure
The college comprises of two buildings for the various departments and workshops. The classes, studios, computer labs and exhibition halls are excellent and air-conditioned. The laboratories, computer facilities and library are well-equipped. The library is highly resourceful and has some volumes of books that date back to the time the school was established around a century ago. A material library with samples of various materials and small-scale models is available for reference.
Crowd and Hangouts
A majority of the student body is from the town itself. One can see a wide variety of students coming from different backgrounds too.

In and around the college campus, students can explore a large number of places to hang out. Some of the places popular among students include Sterling, Eros, New Excelsior, Mc Donald’s, Regal, Metro, Marine Drive, Relish, Shiv Sagar, Gaylord, Subway, etc.
