SRM Institute of Science and Technology (formerly known as SRM University)

Sri Ramaswamy Memorial University or SRM University is a privately owned deemed institution located in Kattankulathur, Tamil Nadu. The university offers close to 55 undergraduate courses, and has around 10, 000 students.  It was granted deemed status in 2004. The university began as an Engineering college in 1985 and is well known for Business Administration and Computer Science studies.  It offers close to 47 trust-based and non college scholarships.  Admission to the university is through a qualification exam, held by the university itself. However, the university also accepts national tests scores for certain streams.

SRM University has been ranked as the 7th and 8th best college in India for Business Administration and Engineering & Technology studies, by India Today’s poll on best colleges in India 2017. The rankings for the subjects were only introduced in 2012.  The college is not easy to get into and one has to appear for an entrance test held by the university to be eligible, except a select few courses which also consider national level test scores.
Infrastructure
SRM University is housed amongst 300 acres of lush green.  The campus boasts of state-of-the-art infrastructure.  Indian Bank, Union Bank, the SRM Hotel and the Royal Inn restaurant, are also parts of campus. It also includes SRM General Hospital, SRM Medical College, SRM Arts and Science College, SRM Kattankulathur Dental College and the SRM Polytechnic College, among a plethora of other facilities and buildings.
Facilities
 Computer Centre
A fully air-conditioned and state-of-the-art computer centre with more than 200 terminals functions at the SRM campus. Students are encouraged to make full use of the facility to train themselves in modern computer applications and software development - and for academic learning. Students can also acquire practical experience in hardware technology as quite a number of computers are assembled internally at the college workshop.
Transportation
The SRM group runs a fleet of buses for transporting students to and from the city and to other areas. There are two vans and several cars too. Public transport buses and trains also ply to points near the campuses.
Institutional Visits
SRM has tie-ups with various organizations, so students of various disciplines can visit their plants to get a direct insight into the multi-functional processes at these organizations. In-plant training is also organized whenever necessary. Healthcare
Students of SRM have access to medical facilities at various places, apart from a 24-hour dispensary which has been set up on campus with a doctor on call. The SRM Hospital at West Mambalam has facilities for several diagnostic procedures such as ECG, X-Ray and laboratory investigation.
Health insurance cover for all students is one of the additional services under active consideration.
Shopping
A mini supermarket functions within the campus, to supply necessities. The canteen also offers a range of snacks and beverages.
Banking
Nationalized banks run extension counters at the Kattankulathur and Ramapuram premises, making it convenient for students and staff to transact business at the campus itself.

The university has one of the most well maintained and spacious libraries in India.  It is located in a 15-storey university administrative block, and it spreads out over 3+ floors.  It is 1.50 lakh sq ft in area. The library building is:
     •    Fully air-conditioned and automated with RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology
     •    Well protected with fire alarms and CCTV security systems
     •    Equipped with reading halls in all the floors, with reference collection
