Nilratan Sarkar Medical College and Hospital

In 1887 Sealdah Market Building was converted to Sealdah Municipal Hospital. On 1st Dec. 1873 the Sealdah Medical School was born out of the Sealdah Municipal Hospital. In 1884 it was named as Campbell Medical School and later on in June 1948 upgraded as Campbell Medical College. On 10th Aug. 1950 the College was renamed as Nilratan Sircar Medical College after the name of the great freedom fighter and alumni of this institution. The college is located in Kolkata. Apart from under-graduate courses, the post-graduate degree and diploma and diploma courses in various disciplines are run. The college partakes in BDS, MDS, and NIOH curriculum including theory and practical classes.

Facilities
Central Library: N.R.S. Medical college library is considered to be the best medical library in the country. It has a vast collection of medical books and journals on almost all the medical and allied subjects. It is growing exponentially with addition of good number of books, journals (both Indian and foreign), CD and other non-book material year by year. The library maintains a very good catalogue of library materials as per AACR-2. Library management software SOUL (Network Version) has been installed in the library. Creation of data base has been started along with machine-readable form of library catalogue. The internet in the library is being utilised fully by the faculties, post graduate and undergraduate students.
