Netaji Mahavidyalaya, Arambagh

The history of this college goes back to the period of India’s independence. It was in 1948 that the college was established. Since then, with a gradual march the college has assumed its present status. Whereas in 1948, it started with only 96 students, its present roll strength is 5747 having as many as 21 honours Departments. Besides, the college offers the facility of studying some rare courses like Plant Protection, Computer Science, Electronics, Environmental Science, BBA, BCA, Music and Santhali. Moreover, there are two distance education centres—IGNOU and NSOU.

Location Information
42 Kms south to the university of Burdwan, 28 Kms West to the Tarekeshwar station, 14 kms & 20 Kms. north-east to Kamarpukur and Jairambati respectively, the college is named after Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, the great son of India. Adjacent to the Arambagh sub-divisional town across the Dwarakeshwar, the college is situated in the village of Kalipur, Hooghly, a place which shows a happy harmony of natural ambience and urban civilization.
Library Facilities
It is one of the well-equipped libraries in this zone. The College is proud of its library system, which comprises of the Central Library and 21 Departmental Libraries. The central library can provide most of the facilities needed to quench the thirst of knowledge enhancement, to all the associated people. .The Central Library has over 43,693 volumes of books, 38 periodicals and journals, 9general dailies, andnon-book materials such as reports, pamphlets, maps and CD-ROMs. Apart from printed books the college proudly announces the addition of 3828 e-journals and 80409 ebooks by subscribing INFLIBNET-NLIST program.
Hostel Facilities
The college has two Boys’ hostels (Vidyasagar Chhatrabas having the accommodation of 88 boarders and Bidyarthi Bhawan having the capacity of 25 boarders) and two Girls’ hostels (Nazarul Chhatriniwas having the accommodation of 125 boarders and Principal Quarters’ Hostel for ST Girls having the capacity of 25 boarders)
Laboratories
All the laboratory-based departments like Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Zoology, Computer Science, Mathematics, Geography, Plant Protection, Environmental Science and BCA have well-equipped laboratories, the infrastructure of which is getting modernized day by day. Computer facilities are also available for the students and the college is in the process of expanding these facilities. Major/Minor Research projects carried out by some of the facilities of Science departments go a long way towards modernizing these laboratories with up to date accessories like laminar air flow, trinocular research microscope, soil testing equipment etc.
Medical Facilities
The following are the health facilities available for students of the college
  • Arrangement for FIRST AID in the college.
  • Health check up from students’ Health Home where service from qualified doctors and competent staff is available.
  • In emergency cases the Health Home refer the patients to Arambagh Subdivison Hospital or, if necessary, to the Students Health Home at Moulali or better hospitals in Kolkata by the ambulance provided by them.
Internet Facilities
Keeping pace with modern ICT based administrative and academic activities, the college is now in a position to say that it enjoys computer facility to a large extent.
  • The College office and library are fully computerised.
  • The insitutuion has a total of 128 computers including departments, library and office.
  • Entire college is under Wi-Fi facility and all the faculty members and students have access to internet on campus.
  • Few computers are made available exclusively for the students in the library to meet their personal requirements
  • The department of computer application has two computer laboratories, one software and one hardware
Sports
The college has its own play-ground which serves as the general venue of Games & Sports organized by the institution. Facilities for outdoor games like Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Athletics, Badminton etc. are available. Facilities in Indoor games like Table Tennis, Carrom, Chess etc. are also provided for boys & girls.
Gymnasium
There is also a Multi Gymnasium in the college where there is provision for exercise for male & female students separately as well as for interested staff members
