National Institute of Technology, Warangal (NIT Warangal)

The National Institute of Technology, Warangal also known as NITW or NIT Warangal is an engineering institute located in Warangal.  It was known as Regional Engineering College, Warangal (RECW).  The institute runs around 7 undergraduate courses and has close to 2500 students pursuing undergraduate studies.  The college was established in 1959, by then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.  The institute was conferred NIT status in 2002.  The college is India’s first REC.  Admission to NIT Warangal is a tough proposition, as it is an NIT and one of the most competitive and in demand institutes in India.

Nitw Ranked as 25th Position in the Category of Engineering For The Year 2018 By NIRF. NITW has been ranked as 10th top engineering college to study in India, by Outlook poll of best colleges for engineering studies in India For The Year 2016.  The institute was ranked 11th in 2011 and has slipped from its ranking of 11th to 15th recently.  However, the institute has featured in the top 15 colleges since 2005.  Other polls the institute has featured on include Outlook’s best engineering colleges 2012, 2011 and so on. The institute is the oldest REC in India and one needs to score a good rank in the JEE Mains to be eligible.
Selection process
Admission to the institute is based on the rank one scores in the JEE-Main, which usually takes place in May.  The other criteria include 60% in 10+2, with PCM.  The college reserves 50% seats for local students and 50% for other rankers.  Once selected, classes usually begin in the month of July.
Facilities
The institute has many facilities like a well stocked Library, which contains more than 1,50,000 books, technical pamphlets, journals etc.  The institute also encompasses two mega hostels one for women and one for men.  The men’s hostel has a whopping 7 messes, including two international food courts; IFC-A and IFC-B.  The hostels are all Wi-Fi enabled.
Centre for Innovation and Incubation
NIT Warangal is the only NIT to have a centre (The centre for Innovation and Incubation) established which provides laboratory space for start up industries.  Two start ups have started at the centre.  Besides these two start ups ‘Infosys ltd.’ has financed a research project, which is undertaken by students and faculty at the NIT.
Placement
National Institute of Technology, Warangal is one of the premier engineering schools of India, maintaining an excellent academic record. The Institute's Training and Placement Section provides a launch pad for students to make it to the best organizations in the fields of software, core industries, management, etc. The biggest names in the corporate world visit the campus on a regular basis, with enviable recruitment offers.Our students have lived up to the expectations of organizations that visit the campus, looking for bright candidates to take up important and challenging responsibilities at their workplace. The TAPS boasts of maintaining an excellent rapport with a wide spectrum of companies spread across various industry sectors. Over the years, the section has maintained good and strong relationship with Industries across the country and as a result, has built up an impressive placement record both in terms of percentage of registered students placed, as well as the number of companies visiting the campus.
The T & P section assists the departments in placement of students at major industries. About120 - 150 companies visit the campus every year. We truly appreciate the faith bestowed on us from several organizations and we look forward to continuing our relationship with them.The Training and Placement Section (TAPS) at Warangal is one of the most popular placement cells among top companies and it has helped many students secure placements and internships over the years.  Last year some of the top recruiters from NITW were:
