National Institute of Fashion Technology, New Delhi

NIFT, New Delhi, was set up by the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, in technical collaboration with FIT, New York in 1986. NIFT Delhi has produced a number of eminent alumni over the years like Rohit Bal, Ritu Beri and Manish Arora. It was set up in 1986 under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. NIFT was granted a statutory status under an Act of Parliament of India in 2006, empowering the Institute to award degrees and other academic distinctions. The institution offers around seven courses in Fashion as well as Art and Design. Admission to the institution is based on marks scored in NIFT entrance exam.

Resource Centre
The Resource Centre (RC) of NIFT Delhi has rich collections of print and non-print reference materials. Its collections pertaining to fashion studies and research, inherited from the National Resource Centre established in 1987, are unparalleled in the Indian sub-continent. The institute also has e-resources. The RC subscribes to leading online international databases and periodicals. The subscriptions include Just-style.com, Proquest’s ABI/Inform Complete, Design & Applied Art Index (DAAI), Apparel Resources.com and a host of other online resources. It hosts a textiles collection with fully documented and methodically arranged collections of fabrics (displayed fabric and region-wise), export fabrics and latest international fabrics. The Swatch library of RC Delhi is the largest in NIFT.
Infrastructure and Facilities

The institute has a lively and vibrant campus. The building houses fully equipped lecture rooms, design studios and laboratories, resource centre and other activity centres. The education structure emphasises hands-on experience through practical set-ups and state-of-the-art technology. The institute has design labs and studio labs to experiment and innovate.


Placement
The placement cell at NIFT facilitates on campus placements for graduation students of NIFT to enable them to start their careers in challenging positions. Leading national and international apparel companies vie with each other to recruit NIFT professionals like Proline, Pantaloons, Globus. The college has a placement cell that is headed by a faculty member of the college. All activities pertaining to campus recruitment are managed by this cell. Companies are invited to the campus every year. The cell is also involved in training and counselling students. Personality development programmes are also conducted for the students. The cell facilitates industry institute interaction on particular occasions.NIFT Placement Cell facilitates on campus placements for graduation students of NIFT to enable them to start their careers in challenging positions. Leading national and international apparel companies vie with each other to recruit NIFT professionals. The star employers of NIFT professionals in the past from domestic companies have been Blackberrys, Globus, Pantaloon, Proline, S.Kumar's Titan, Carbon, Mundra Garments and many others. Leading buying offices like Gap, Li & Fung, Tommy Hilfiger, Triburg, Colby, Impulse-Next, etc. have been regularly offering key decision making positions to our graduating students.
