National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad

Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India. It is recognised by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research under Ministry of Science and Technology as an organisation for research in scientific and industrial design.

All applicants fulfilling the requirements of minimum qualification and falling within the prescribed age limit are called for the Design Aptitude Test (GDPD & PGDPD) that is conducted at various centres. The test is conducted in January and classes start in June. The institute was placed by Business Week in its list of top design schools of the world.

Campus

Campus and Activities
National Institute of Design (NID) has 3 campuses. The main campus is located in Ahmedabad. The other two are located in Gandhinagar and Bengaluru. The institute has its own design outlet called Nidus that makes designed products available to people. The products showcased in the outlet include those designed by NID students, faculty and alumni. The institute has also set up the Industry Programmes and Projects Department that conducts design sensitisation workshops, activities and seminars.

Placement Cell
The college provides placement services to students. The placement cell acts as a single point of contact between the organisations and the students. The cell not only looks into the placement of the students, but also into the training and grooming of students for interviews.  The cell conducts various mock aptitude tests and seminars to make the students industry-ready.Placement Office provides strategic platform to synergize and facilitate interaction between academia and industry with an idea to provide exposure to NID Students, creating opportunities for students’ project-based learning like graduation projects, industrial training, classroom projects and live projects. NID organises Industry Interface annually to provide a meeting ground where the prospective employer and students can meet and employer can identify suitable candidates for recruitment in their organization. This event also creates awareness among the industries / firms / studios/ NGOs. / Govt. Sector / MSMEs about NID and its various modes of operations.
