Nabagram Hiralal Paul College

Nabagram Hiralal Paul College was founded on 3rd February 1957 at the initiative of a number of progressive people of the locality, keenly interested in higher education.

The area Nabagram started developing after the partition of Bengal, with people coming from East Bengal for settlement.
After primary and secondary schools were set up felt the pressing need for a College within the settlement.
To help translate this noble venture into a reality the Late Hiralal Paul, a patron of learning came forward with a generous donation towards construction of a building for the College. Dr. B.C. Roy, the then Chief Minister of West Bengal kindly laid the foundation stone of the present College building.
The Late P. C. sen, the then Food Minister, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Dr. T. C. Dasgupta, an eminent Professor of Bengali of Calcutta University, joined as the founder Principal of the College. Since this humble beginning with a small building and only 65 students, the College has been making steady progress with the financial assistance of the central and the state Governments and the U.G.C.
Today, we have a full fledged co-educational Degree College, affiliated to Calcutta University with Arts ,Science and Commerce streams, accommodating not less than 1500 students.
The College got accreditation by NAAC in 2005 at the “B” level obtaining 74% marks signifying its academic and overall excellence.
Its celebrated Golden Jubilee Year (2006 – 2007) with due honour to its traditions.

Facilities
  • The library of the College has a rich collection of texts and reference books numbering more than 21,000 copies. Students get valuable services from library in the preparation of their day-to-day studies. Every honours department has seminar Library from where student can get their required books according to the regulation of respective departments .
  • Performance of the students is constantly monitored through periodical tests. Annual and Test Examinations. Through these periodic assessments, weakness of the students is identified and appropriate remedial measures are taken by holding tutorial classes.
  • Students are encouraged to participate in the  activities like Drama, Recitation, Debate, Music, Film Festival under the supervision of the staff of the College and outside experts of the related field.
  • Games & Sports Facilities are available for both indoor and outdoor games . Steps are taken for participation of students in district-level and state level sports meet . Our students have enviable performance records in sports, athletics & various indoor & outdoor games .
  • The performance of our College in different events of Games & Sports is outstanding Achievements of the college in Games & Sports: Nabagram Hiralal Paul College boasts of a glorious heritage in the arena of Games and Sports.
  • We conducted various programmes like Health Care Awareness, Blood Donation Camp, Literacy Drive Programme, AIDS awareness, Field study on economic condition of women and child labour, Environmental awareness.
  • The College has a counseling cell for providing assistance to the students for placement.
  • A grievance redresser cell functions under the chairmanship of the Principal with three representatives each from students, non-teaching and teaching staff. The cell tries to redress grievances, brought to the notice of the cell .
  • The College has an Alumni Association, which meets once a year. The Alumni Association provides a strong bond between the past and present students. The Association renders valuable services for the welfare of the present and past students and also for the College.
  • The N.C.C Department of the college started its function in 1985. In various camps held on national level some of our cadets gain remarkable positions with achievement certificates and medals every year. The most glorious aspect of our N.C.C unit is the award of Governor’s medal for obtaining the “Best Cadet Rank” in Calcutta Division in 1996 and 2003 for the second time. Some cadets of our college have been appointed in army sector. Thus our cadets have a great prospect in future and we expect more achievements by them. Girls Students are being enrolled in N.C.C Course of the College from the Academic Session 2005 – 2006.
  • College has opened N.S.S unit since 2007. students can enroll their names in this unit. Various social and environmental activities are performed by our N.S.S Unit.
