NIFT, Mumbai

Set up in 1986, NIFT is the pioneering institute of fashion education in the country and has been in the vanguard of providing professional human resource to the textile and apparel industry. It was made a statutory institute in 2006 by an Act of the Indian Parliament with the President of India as ‘Visitor’ and has full fledged campuses all across the country. Over the years NIFT has also been working as a knowledge service provider to the Union and State governments in the area of design development and positioning of handlooms and handicrafts. NIFT, Mumbai was established in 1995. The institute offers around five courses on Fashion. Admission to the institute is based on marks scored in NIFT entrance test.

Campus Infrastructure
NIFT Mumbai provides state-of-the-art infrastructure in terms of class room equipments, computer labs and class rooms. Apart from the academic infrastructure, the students have been provided with a recreation centre, world class Gymnasium and Indoor & Outdoor sports facility. Mumbai is known as the city that never sleeps. NIFT, Mumbai centre was established in the year 1995 and is presently located at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. NIFT Mumbai has attained national repute for its pre-eminent status as an industry oriented state-of-the-art training centre and has reached the pinnacle of academic excellence and thought leadership on different fashion platforms.
Ranking
NIFT Mumbai has been ranked as the top 3rd college in India for Fashion and Art and Design in 2017 by India Today and 2nd by Outlook in 2017.
Resource Centre and Library
The Resource Centre of the National Institute of Fashion Technology is a hub of fashion information services of the institute. It caters to the diversified information needs of the professionals with its quality print and non-print resources mediated by trained professionals. The institute has a library with has 9000 volumes of books, 2700 slides, 400 electronic databases, 100 project reports, 58 craft documents, and 280 video cassettes
Facilities
The institute has facilities like Design Studios and high quality lecture rooms. It only houses female students on campus. Each hosteller is provided with a bed, mattresses, study table, chair, wardrobes, etc. The hostel also has a fitness centre .
Design Studios:
The design studios on campus offer ample opportunity to students to experiment and innovate, while the laboratories provide hi-technology work areas covering real-time aspects of the industry. These studios are in the process of being set up.
High Quality Lecture Rooms:
Class rooms are equiped with good facilities and also projectors for displaying presentations.
IT Savy Education:
The success of fashion professionals rests on their ability to integrate Fashion and Information Technology in a meaningful way. IT support is a critical feature at all NIFT centres and the computer labs are equipped with Latest hardware and software.

Social and Environmental Club:
The Social and Environmental Club of NIFT hosts different competitions and events celebrating multiple festivals both Indian(like Onam, DusheraMela, Mahalaya) and International (like Halloween). The DussheraMela is one of the most popular events hosted by the club before students go home for Diwali vacations. Along with celebratory events, the club also hosts numerous social events like blood donation drives, donation camps and NGO visits to sensitise students toaspects of socially inclusive growth. Health Week is a special initiative taken by the club, during which various camps are put up and free of cost medical aid and check up is provided to the students and faculty.
Cultural Club:
The Cultural Club has students from different academic years and departments, with a common interest in cultural affairs. Various events are conducted, inviting artists and performers for cultural interactions. Spectrum, the annual fest of the Institute, is coordinated by the Cultural Club. The fashion team, the dance team, the music team etc. work in coordination with the club, which usually has one or two faculty mentors.
Film and Photography Club:
The Film and Photography Club is responsible for all visual communication activities - lights, camera and action - however, their responsibilities and initiatives are not restricted to the above. The club members also help other students develop their skills in photography and film-making.The Club believes in testing the knowledge gained in an adverse condition, in environments which can't be controlled and hence they also organize various photo-walks and photo-trips The Club recently gave NIFT its first yearbook.
Sports Club:
The Sports Club promotes all activities related to Sports. The various sports promoted include Table Tennis, Volleyball, Basketball, Badminton, Throwball and Cricket.The activities are divided into leagues according to the sport. Throughout the year, the leagues encourage participation among the student community through on-campus tournaments. The core teams across campuses compete in the main annual Meet, Converge. Some teams also get opportunities for competing in sports events hosted by other colleges.


Placements
NIFT placement cell facilitates on campus placements for graduating students at NIFT to enable them to start their careers in challenging positions. Leading national and international apparel companies vie with each other to recruit NIFT professionals. The college has a placement cell that is headed by a faculty member of the college. All activities pertaining to campus recruitment are managed by this cell. Companies are invited to the campus every year. The cell is also involved in training and counselling students. Personality development programmes are also conducted for the students. The cell facilitates regular institute interactions on particular occasions.
