Mount Carmel College

Mount Carmel College (MCC) is located in Vasanth Nagar, Bangalore. It offers around 31 undergraduate courses.  The college was established in 1948 by Carmelite Sisters of St. Teresa. It was established with the aim of providing quality education to women. Admission into the college is based on personal interviews. Communication Studies & Journalism courses have entrance exams scheduled in May. Admission into B.Com & BBM courses is based on merit. Classes begin in July.

Ranking Explanation
The college was ranked 16th for Arts courses, 17th for Commerce courses and 12th for Science courses and 9th For Business Courses in India by the India Today magazine in 2017. It has moved several places down from its previous year’s ranking of 18th in Arts, 15th in Commerce and 8th in Science.
Campus
The college spans an area of more than 2, 56,256 square feet. Its campus is lush green and has many gardens and open spaces with trees. The college is centrally located and is well connected to other parts of the country. All the required amenities and facilities are within walking distance from the campus.
Infrastructure
MCC has separate blocks for different departments, in addition to auditorium and hostels. The library is spacious and well equipped. The campus is Wi-Fi enabled and there is no restriction over its usage. However, a few sites such as social networks are blocked. Hostel facilities are available on campus.
Placement Cell
MCC has a Placement Cell that was established to help students with their careers. The placement cell organises skill enhancement workshops, career fairs and presentations by career counsellors for the students. Students are counselled by a professional counsellor. Activities and workshops such as interview skills, resume writing, aptitude tests, mock interviews and group discussions are conducted for the students. Some of the companies where students have secured placements include Google, Goldman Sachs, Deloitte, DE Shaw India Software Pvt. Ltd, iGate, HCL and TESCO.
Campus Recruitment Training + Soft skills training
Many companies that come for placements as well as institutions that offer higher studies require students to clear an ‘entrance test’ to check their aptitude for the position before admission. CRT classes are an initiative by the Placement Cell that take place for 2nd year students. Trainers from top training institutes train students in skills that are tested in the entrance exams like – problem solving abilities, mathematics, verbal, spatial and reasoning skills.
Along with CRT classes, students are also trained in developing their soft skills including resume writing, Group discussions, effective communication, team work and developing emotional intelligence through mock interviews and skill based exercises that are essential in building a friendly work environment.
Internships
The placement cell encourages an internship culture at Mount Carmel, as the students get firsthand experience about the actual work culture and the nature of work even before they are on boarded to a full time employment.
