Madras Medical College

MMC or Madras Medical College is located in Chennai, India. Established on February 2, 1835, it is India’s oldest medical college along with the Kolkata Medical College. It offers around 5 undergraduate courses. It began as a private medical hall that was regularised into a medical school by the Governor Sir Frederick Adam. It was later accorded the status of a college and was christened as Madras Medical College. Admission into the college is on the basis of CET score merit list. The college hospital (Government General Hospital) is one of the best in the state and ranks among the top in the Indian subcontinent.

The college was ranked 7th among medical colleges in India by the India Today magazine in the year 2013. It has moved 1 place up from its previous year’s ranking of 8th. It was ranked 12th in 2012, 6th in 2009, 8th in 2008, and 10th in 2007 by India Today.
Cultural Festivals
The college conducts various inter-college festivals for students. These include ‘Revivals’, which is a cultural festival and ‘Encierro’, which is an inter-medical sports event. Intra-college cultural events like ‘Kalaioma’ are also hosted by the college. The events are generally held in September.
