Lady Hardinge Medical College

Lady Hardinge Medical College is located near Connaught Place in New Delhi. It offers around two undergraduate courses. It was established in 1916 and was made a part of the Delhi University in 1950. It has two hospitals for training medical students. Lady Hardinge, the wife of the then Viceroy Charles Hardinge, took the initiative of starting a medical college for women because of the lack of separate medical colleges for women. Admission into MBBS courses is on the basis of DUMET, while admission into nursing courses is on the basis of a written test. The tests are conducted in May and classes begin in July-August.

Library
Lady Hardinge Medical College has a central library that has over 27,000 books on medicine and related disciplines. It has more than 24,000 bound journals and 50,000 loose issues of journals. In addition, the library subscribes to more than 160 titles of journals.
Sports & Recreation
The college offers innumerable facilities to students to pursue their hobbies and engage in extracurricular activities. The college campus has tennis courts, a swimming pool, badminton courts, and a gymnasium, in addition to facilities for indoor games and table tennis. A full-time physical instructress has been appointed to guide the college’s students in these activities.
Hostel
Hostel facilities are available for more than 450 undergraduate students. The college hostel has 5 blocks. One of the five blocks is a multi-storey building with a lift facility. The hostel mess is run by the hostellers themselves, with the help of a contractor. The hostels have recreation rooms where students can play indoor games and watch TV. Facilities for playing outdoor games such as volley ball and badminton are also provided.
