Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal University

Kasturba Medical College or KMC is a medical institution which is affiliated to Manipal University.  It was established in 1953, by late Dr. T. M. A. Pai. The college is located in Manipal, Karnataka. It was initially affiliated to Mangalore University, before the Manipal Academy of Higher Education was granted deemed university status in 1993, and KMC came under its purview. The college offers around 2 undergraduate courses and is known for excellence in imparting medical studies and has been ranked by both India Today and Outlook Magazine amongst the top medical colleges in India. Admission to the university was based on the rank scored in the all India level MAHE test conducted by Manipal University (until 2012). However, admission to the college will now be through NEET from 2013 onwards.

Ranking
The College Ranked as 4th Position in the Category of Medicine Courses By NIRF For the year 2018.The college has been ranked as 9th best medical college in 2017 and also 10th best medical college in India 2017, by India Today and Outlook Magazine respectively.  The interesting thing to note here is that the college slipped from 10th in 2011 to 14th in 2012 on the India Today rankings, similarly it fell 3 places on the Outlook rankings of 6th in 2011 to 9th in 2012.

The college has regularly featured among the top 10 in India in the Outlook Magazine rankings, since 2010. Also, the college has regularly featured amongst the top 10 in India Today’s poll since 2005. It is not easy to get into and admission to the university was based on the rank scored in the all India level MAHE test conducted by Manipal University (until 2012). However, admission to the college will now be through the NEET from 2013 onwards.
Classrooms
The classrooms are shared among the students of KMC, KMCIC, MMMC, MCOAHS and MCOPS and others for their lectures. They are housed in a 4 storey building. Each classroom can accommodate over a hundred students. The classrooms have been designed such that every student can get an uninterrupted view of the faculty and teaching aids from all sides. All halls have public address system as well.a
E-Learning
In their quest toward facilitating interactive learning amongst students, KMC utilises the e-learning portal of Manipal University, which allows students to learn at their own pace, and look at problems objectively.  One of the most striking features of the college is that it is the most high-tech medical college in India, and every student is provided a laptop on entry to the college.
Placement
There is no placement cell at KMC. However, the college has exchange programmes with Loma Linda University, USA, Operation Eyesight Universal, Canada, Tayside University, Dundee and University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA. Also the college offers one year rotating internship at the affiliated hospital of the college.
Student Bodies
KMC is a part of Manipal University and the university has many student clubs running. Some of the important clubs and cultural fests that are present at the college are:
