Jyoti Nivas College

Jyoti Nivas College (JNC) is an autonomous college located in an upmarket area of Bangalore – the garden city of India. The college offers around 18 undergraduate courses. Established in 1966, it is a minority Christian College founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Tarbes.  It was granted autonomy in 2004, and was recognised as a college with potential for excellence by the UGC.

Admission into the college is on the basis of performance in the qualifying examination specific to the course, along with an entrance test and an interview. Classes for most courses begin in July. The college currently ranks among premier women’s institutions, both in the State and in the country. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council conferred it with a five-star status in 1998.

Ranking Explanation
The college was ranked 35th in Science, 34th in Arts and 39th in Commerce by India Today magazine. This ranking is based on the India Today-Nielsen survey of all colleges in India in the year 2013. While its rank in Science improved from the previous year’s ranking of 32nd, its rank in Arts has gone down five places and that in Commerce has gone down 13 places.
Campus
The JNC campus is spread across an area of around 38,786 sq. metres. It has vast areas of greenery and the climate is pleasant and moderate. It has well furnished classrooms, an air conditioned spacious auditorium, laboratories, libraries, canteen, a research centre, a prayer hall, hostel, parking area, and audio visual rooms equipped with LCD projectors and TVs. The students can also avail internet and photocopying facilities.

Facilities are also provided for extracurricular activities such as music, sports, elocution, dramatics, quiz, journalism, NSS and NCC. The college encourages students to participate in clubs and associations such as the ‘Rotaract’ Club, Bangalore Catholic Students Association and the Adventure Club.
Infrastructure
The college has an administrative block, a post graduate block, a degree block, a pre-university block and a research centre. The degree block hosts the various faculty departments, labs, counselling centre, conference halls, NCC / NSS room, Union Room, Adventure Club, and classrooms. The campus also has the extension counter of Vijaya Bank. The library is well stocked, and the labs have all the necessary equipment in good condition. The labs are equipped with LCD projectors.
Library
The library has a collection of more than 65,000 UG books, around 4,500 PG books, more than 200 periodicals and journals and nearly 20 newspapers along with digital resources such as DVDs and CDs. The library building has a basement and four floors. It has institutional memberships with INFLIBNET, (Ahmedabad), DELNET (New Delhi), Indian Institute of Management (Bangalore), and Bangalore University (Bangalore). Students can also access digital resources on the internet. The library offers lending, reprography and inter-library loan facilities to students in addition to book bank facilities for SC/ST students.
Placement Cell
Jyoti Nivas College along with its academic excellence, also aims to provide career guidance and placements for all streams of students at under-graduate and post-graduate level. It helps the students to face challenging carriers ahead in their chosen fields by providing training and current information's to assist the students in placements.
The entire activities of workshops, seminars, career guidance and final placements are carried on by the placement cell of Jyoti Nivas College.
Objectives :
To help the students to be aware of the large opportunities available for different disciplines in the corporate world.
To help the students to know the different courses available for their post-graduation.
Placement cell also motivates the students to study for getting better profiles.
It provides a platform for the students to seek jobs.
Helps them choose their career by choice and not by chance.
Resume writing: T.I.M.E conducted session on resume writing which focused on various modes of preparing resumes.
Communication: Career Launcher helped the students to discover themselves, motivated them to identify their goals and helped them get initiated to the corporate world through their sessions of personality development, presentation skills, grooming and communication skills.
Aptitude Test: T.I.M.E Pvt.Ltd. trained to crack many kinds of aptitude test easily. A mock aptitude test was given to students on the spot.
Time Management: RAI Business School conducted sessions on time management where the students got to know how to manage their time efficiently.
Leadership Quality: It featured the role of an eminent leader, the dos and don'ts with examples.
Group Discussion: The tips were given on the dos and don'ts of group discussions, methods on scoring points and various skills judged in the group discussions. A mock GD was also conducted.
Personal Interview: Tips on how to face an Interview were given to the students.
Stress Management: RAI Business School carried out sessions on stress management which covered topics on stress, kinds of stress and various techniques to manage stress effectively.
Career Opportunities: Career Launcher carried out a session on enlightening students on carious career opportunities available to different streams in today's world.
Sessions on entrance exams: T.I.M.E gave a very important session on speed math as well as details on various competitive exams. 
JNC provides placement assistance to students through campus recruitment drives, career guidance, workshops and seminars. Top recruiters of students from JNC include Accenture, MindTree, Infosys, J.P Morgan, Wipro, Cognizant, Zee News, Virgin Mobile, Standard Charted, IBM, and Goldman Sachs. The placement training sessions conducted by the college cover topics such as communication skills, resume writing, stress management, personal interviews, leadership qualities, and time management.  The sessions are conducted by industry experts.
