Jadavpur University

Jadavpur University or JU is located in Kolkata, a vibrant metropolis in the state of West Bengal. The main campus of the university is situated on Raja S. C. Mullik Road, Jadavpur, which is well connected to others parts of the city. The university has another campus at Salt Lake. JU offers more than thirty undergraduate courses to over 10,000 students.The history of JU has its roots in the Swadeshi Movement of 1905 (India’s freedom movement). It began with the amalgamation of the Bengal Technical Institute with NCE (National Council of Education). It went on to become the College of Engineering and Technology and began functioning as a university. After India’s Independence, it was formally conferred the status of a university in 1955, and was named Jadavpur University.
Admission into B. Tech. courses at the university is based on marks obtained in WB-JEE. The test is conducted in April and the results are out by June. Classes begin in July. Admission into B.A/B.Sc (Honours) courses is on the basis of marks obtained in Higher Secondary or equivalent examination. No admission test is conducted by the university.

Campus

Campuses
The university is semi-residential and operates two urban campuses. The Jadavpur Campus is the main campus. It is bordered by the Raja S. C. Mullick Road, Kolkata Suburban Rail, South Line and the Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute. The other campus of the university located at Salt Lake City is a newer campus set up to alleviate the space constraints of the main campus. It is surrounded by educational institutes like National Institute of Fashion Technology, West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, and Government College of Engineering and Leather Technology. The campus houses hostels for out-station students, an administrative block (KMR), and a library. It often hosts several inter- and intra-state cricket matches.
International Collaborations
JU has international collaborations with several universities in Europe and USA. It has formed associations with educational institutes such as Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, Staffordshire University, International Centre for Theoretical Physics, Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, Leeds Metropolitan University and the University of California. These collaborations facilitate internship opportunities for students to pursue research at international institutes. Students of JU belonging to Engineering and Science streams can avail the ERASMUS and DAAD fellowships for research in Europe.
Library and Digital Resources
The library at JU is one of the largest in India and the third largest in West Bengal. The Jadavpur main campus has a central library while the Salt Lake Campus has a smaller library. The individual departments and schools of the university also have their own libraries. The central library at Jadavpur campus is housed in a three-storey building. It has around 600,000 books, more than 80,000 journals, 37,000 non-book materials, and 13,000 theses and dissertations. The central library also houses the Centre for Digital Library and Documentation, also known as the digital library. It has around 60 nodes from where students can access digital data on the web and from the university’s internal database.
Accommodation
Jadavpur University is semi-residential and provides hostel facilities to a limited number of students. It is usually difficult to acquire housing on campus. Accommodation is generally reserved for financially weak or out-of-state students. A few Masters and Research scholars are accommodated on the main campus hostel. The boy's hostel is situated near the Jadavpur Police Station and is at a walking distance from the university. The girl's hostel is located on the main campus itself.

There are a large number of organizations with whom we enjoy lasting and fruitful relationship and our vision is to convert all our recruiters into partners, where we will be sensitive about the mutual needs and value delivery. The University has a large pool of talent to recruit from, with a wide range of courses being offered at UG and PG levels. At present in the engineering faculty, we have 17 departments at UG level and 57 specializations at PG level. There are another 20 departments in Science and Arts faculties. Around 100 organizations have participated in the campus drive in the current session. Over the years, our university has become one of the preferred choices for campus recruitment drive by all leading organizations.
