Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), BHU

Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, also known as IMS BHU was established in 1960 as a College of Medical Sciences. It is located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh and is affiliated to the Banaras Hindu University. The college offers around 5 courses at the undergraduate level. Admission is on the basis of the scores received in the PMT entrance exam. Classes commence from July onwards.

Ranking
The college was ranked at the 10th position in Medicine studies in 2017. Admission to the college is not very easy since one has to appear for the entrance exam, which is conducted at an all India level.
Location & Campus Infrastructure
IT-BHU is located right in the center of Varanasi, which is perhaps the oldest city in the world.

The infrastructure is regularly improved to serve the needs of the students. All the hostels are either one storeyed or two storeyed buildings, and have a capacity of about 300-400 students. All the laboratories are well-maintained, and the computer labs are air conditioned. The library is spacious and there is a good supply of books. The college is well known for sports. The infrastructure for extracurricular activities is excellent. Students get to use all the facilities of BHU without any additional payment.
Attendance
BHU is very strict about attendance. Students have to maintain at least 70% attendance overall, failing which they are barred from writing the papers. Subject-specific attendance is allowed to fall to around 50%, but the overall attendance should be above 70%.
