Location and Campus Infrastructure
Located in the North Campus of Delhi University (DU), Hans Raj College is situated right at the end of the campus and is pretty far from the main gate of the university. It is well connected by the metro. The nearest metro station is the Vishwavidyalaya, which is a minute’s walk from the main gate of the campus. So, accessibility is not a problem and connectivity is superb.
The college has built a grand infrastructure for its students & staff. The college building, classrooms and the garden are all well maintained. The college has a recently-refurbished, fully air-conditioned auditorium fitted with sound and light systems and a seating capacity of 500 people. Another attraction is the seminar room which has a seating capacity of 120 people.
The expansive college library is housed in the center of the campus in an exclusive building designed for the purpose. It comprises four sections: the main library, individual departmental libraries (sciences), the periodicals and the text book sections. Together, all the sections of the library display a rich collection of more than 1,35,000 titles and about 98 periodicals published in India and abroad. The library has study spaces with a mix of quiet individual and group study areas. It also provides a book-bank facility for lending text books to needy & deserving students for a period of one year at a stretch.
At Hans Raj, 66% attendance is compulsory. If the students fail to have this required percentage of attendance, letters are sent to the parents. Such students are not allowed to give the final year exams and are at risk of losing an academic year. The only advantage is that 66% is a cumulative percentage of three years, thus students can make up for their low attendance anytime during the second and third year of graduation.
