Guru Nanak Dev University

Guru Nanak Dev University was established at Amritsar on November 24, 1969 to mark the 500th birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It is both a residential and an affiliating university. In conceiving the future course of the University, the objectives enshrined in the Guru Nanak Dev University Act 1969, emphasised that the new University would make provision for imparting education and promoting research in the humanities, learned professions, sciences, especially of applied nature and technology

The University has risen to 16th rank in the top 50 universities of the country, as per recent survey conducted by 'India Today' and has achieved 11th Position, out of the 500 universities, in Publications in science. The University has won the highest sports Award in the country, the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy, for a record of 21 times. The university has won National Championship in Inter-University Youth Festivals in the year 2012. The University has been National Champion for 8 times. The University has also won the North Zone Inter-University Cultural Championship for the 12 times this year.
Hostel
There are more than four thousand students staying in five hostels of the university out of which three are for girls and two are for boys. Each hostel is equipped with fully furnished rooms, dining halls, reading rooms and 24-hour internet labs. A stationary cum retail shop along with a hostel canteen is made available in each hostel.

A council including the warden and an assistant warden looks after the administration of each hostel. Various students committees such as mess committee, sports committee and welfare committee work together for the smooth functioning of the hostels. All the hostels are equipped with 24-hour Wi-Fi internet connectivity.

Placement
More than 7500 students have been placed through campus placements / off campus placements / joint campus placements. Students of professional courses are helped to do their industrial training in multinational companies in India and abroad. Interaction of faculty members with company officials is arranged to get feedback regarding requirements of industry. It has helped the departments to revise and update their syllabi as per industry demands.
