Government Law College, Mumbai

Government Law College (GLC), established in 1855, has the distinction of being the oldest Law College in Asia, dating even prior to the University of Mumbai, and enjoys a pre-eminent reputation for excellence in the field of legal education.Government Law College or GLC, as it is popularly known, continues to be an institution exclusively for the students of law. In addition to the old building, the college now has an annexe building, September 1988 onwards, which houses additional class rooms and a reference library.

Ranking
The college is ranked at the 15th position in Law at an all India level By India Today Magazine. The ranking has improved since earlier the college was ranked at the 16th position. Admission to the college is not easy since the college has traditionally maintained high cut-off percentages and competition is fierce for the sparse annual intake.
Infrastructure
Government Law College or GLC, as it is popularly known, continues to be an institution exclusively for the students of law. In addition to the old building, the college now has an annexe building, September 1988 onwards, which houses additional class rooms and a reference library.
Hostel
The college hostel accommodates a large student community of 450 girls studying in different colleges and institutes of Mumbai. It provides good accommodation facilities which include mess, recreation hall, visitor hall, phone and xerox for boys and girls.
Library
The Government Law College library provides students with extensive facilities to maximize their knowledge in the field of law. It is probably the most frequented section of the college, and most certainly a haven for dedicated law students.
Placement Cell
The Placement Committee acts as a vital intermediary between the students of our college and prestigious institutions, firms, corporates and counsels of the country.The Placement Committee is one of the most important committees, shouldering the responsibility of providing a stepping stone to budding lawyers graduating from Government Law College. The committee aims at exhausting all existing opportunities of recruitment in the form of law firms, counsels, LPOs and corporate houses. It acts as a link between the recruiters and students, thereby fulfilling the needs of both. It enables the students to get placements on campus, hence making placements a lot easier for them. The members of the Placement Committee take it upon themselves to ensure that maximum students from the college get placements, providing them with an opportunity to showcase their skills.
