Gargi College

Gargi College was established in 1967 and has currently been awarded Grade-'A' by NAAC. It has on its rolls about 3864 students. It has progressed steadily to become one of the leading institutes of the University of Delhi. It is definitely the most sought after women’s College in south Delhi campus for Sciences. It is the only women’s college in south campus that offers education in four streams, viz Sciences, Commerce and Arts, and a teacher training programme in Elementary Education. Post graduate programme is offered in English, Political Science and Chemistry. The College offers choice of subjects in 10 disciplines. In 2004 UGC conferred on the College the title, College with Potential for Excellence and bestowed a special grant to undertake research and community service projects. In 2009 the Department of biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India awarded Star College Grant and grant for establishing bioinformatics facility at Gargi.

The college is one of the colleges in Delhi to have been awarded the prestigious ‘College with a Potential for Excellence’ grant, by the University Grants Commission in the year 2004-2005. The college has been ranked at the 23rd position in Arts (2017), 10th position in Science (2017) and 18th position in Commerce (2017).
Location
Gargi College is situated near the historic Siri Fort, which is visible from the college’s playground. Qutab Minar is also close by. It can be seen from the college terrace.The college also has a unique positional advantage, being within walking distance of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Siri Fort Auditorium, Ansal Plaza, the Spastics Society of Northern India and Yamini Krishnamurty's Institute of Classical Dance. It is well connected with the rest of the city by on-contract buses and the local services of DTC.
Library
The college has a fully computerised library. There is a wide variety of books in the library to choose from. The number of volumes in the main collection of the library is 60,469. A number of national and international journals and magazines are also subscribed for reference. One can also indulge oneself with a wonderful section on good fiction. Books on general knowledge are in abundance in the library. A spacious and comfortable reference section with an ample seating arrangement has been made for the students.
Facilities
Laboratories:
The Botany, Chemistry, Elementary Education, Microbiology, Physics, Psychology and Zoology laboratories are all very well equipped and spacious. There are Botany and Physics research laboratories too where research is done by faculty members.
Centralised Computer Laboratory:
The central computer laboratory at the college provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and enhance their computer skills. The lab is also available for career-intensive education after regular class hours.
Medical Room:
Medical facility is available to students during college hours. There is a medical room where a trained nurse is available for help or assistance to the students. Besides providing basic first aid, students can also get their health check-up done. Regular medical and dental check-ups are conducted in college by trained medical professionals.
Playground: A large and extensive playground with facilities for playing lawn tennis, cricket, volleyball, basketball and athletics is provided for all sports-inclined students. Facility for indoor games is also provided in the recreation room.
Placement Cell
In order to facilitate the three major objectives of providing guidance and support in the areas of placements (and internships), career guidance and higher education options to students, the Gargi Placement Cell organized the following activities:
  1.  Seminars
  2.  Internships
  3. Aptitude tests
  4. Pre-placement seminars
  5. Recruitment drives
Seminars on higher education opportunities, Group Discussion strategies, Power of personal appearance, aptitude enhancement and Entrepreneurship were organized. An aptitude test drive was conducted in collaboration with NITAT. Teach for India, Gandhi Foundation and The Oberoi group had pre-placement seminars in the college.
Nine companies have visited the college for recruitment drive so far, some of them being Evalueserve, S&P Capital IQ, Ernst & Young, KPMG, Smart Cube and Genpac. The highest package offered this year was 5.24 lac per annum. Six companies are scheduled to visit the college in the month of March.
An active placement cell in college enables the students to avail career counselling sessions, information on avenues of higher/specialised education and campus interviews and placement. Every year MNCs, banks, insurance companies and event management companies recruit students from this college as their employees. Some of the top recruiters are:
