GITAM University

Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management (GITAM) (a deemed-to-be university u/s 3 of the UGC Act, 1956) known as GITAM University is an educational institution in India. It was previously known as GITAM College, affiliated to Andhra University. Established in 1980, it was conferred the status of deemed university in 2007. It was the first private engineering institute in Andhra Pradesh to receive university status. GITAM is planning on receiving an ABET International Accreditation. The university has three campuses – its main campus at Visakhapatnam spreads over 100 acres, and the other two campuses are at Hyderabad and Bangalore. The university offers 122 programs at undergraduate, postgraduate and Doctoral levels in Technology, Pharmacy, Science, Management, International Business, Architecture and Law.

Library Facilities
The activity of providing library facilities to the students and staff started along with the starting of academic programmes. The library activity of GITAM started with the setting up of library for College of Engineering in 1980. This was added by library of College of Management Studies 1988, which was followed by the library of GIFT in 1997. To optimize the resource utilization and maximize convenience to the users, the need of centralizing the library facility was felt. Accordingly GITAM Management took a bold step of constructing a huge building of architectural excellence with all modern gadgets. The central library was commissioned in 2002 and subsequently transformed into Knowledge Resource Centre. The building was ideally and centrally located at the heart of the campus overlooking the vast expanse of scores of acres. It is garlanded by a cluster of academic buildings, classrooms, laboratories, workshops, sports grounds with international standards, canteen and hostel buildings. The hillock of Rushikonda, the legendary abode of saints, surrounded by green pastures and the blue ocean are some of the visual delights in the vast panoramic view from the library. The building was named after the famous and world renowned teacher, philosopher and former President of India, Sir Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan as Sir Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Bhavan. This five storied air conditioned complex with CCTV Surveillance System is an architectural delight. The Bhavan has a total plinth area of 50,000 s.ft and facilities like air conditioned auditorium with a seating capacity of 200 and also annexe to host meetings for a capacity of 500. Book exhibitions, product demos, group discussions of training and placement departments and get togethers of students take place here.
Hostel Facilities
With a view to providing personal care to the students coming from various corners of the country, the University has built hostels that provide the right academic ambience for students in search of excellence in their pursuits. The disciplined and caring hostel environment helps the student imbibe positive values which serve as a firm foundation for their life and career. With the spirit of sharing and living in a multicultural community, they grow into evolved human beings. The University administration puts in all efforts to help the students feel at home in terms of comforts and concern of the hostel personnel. Eco-friendly environment, encouraging academic ambience, uncompromising quality of hygiene, steam cooking, safe drinking water, round the clock security, availability of qualified doctors and resident wardens, indoor games facilities, uninterrupted power supply- all these ensure a very safe and secure stay for the student.
Laboratory Facilities
Central Research Laboratory (CRL), GITAM Institute of Technology, GITAM University is a Research Centre under which faculty from all streams of Engineering and Science carry out their research work. It is fully equipped with sophisticated instruments accessible to all the researchers. The main objective of the CRL is to promote high quality research in Science and Engineering disciplines by providing facilities and technical expertise in support of basic and applied research activities. The laboratory promotes scientific thinking and experimental exposure to the faculty and students as well.
Placement Comment
Most of the recruiting organizations adopt the following standard campus recruitment process for selection of the students, short listing at every stage:
  • Pre-Placement Talk: HR Head of the organization will explain the company’s profile and growth of the organization, selection criteria, CTC offered by them, and future prospects for the students. This is an interactive platform where students may get their doubts clarified from the campus recruitment team.
  • Written Test (Online / Offline): This consists of (a) aptitude skills test (quantitative, verbal ability and logical reasoning), (b) computer programming test and (c) core subject knowledge test.
  • Group Discussion: In this round, students will be given a particular topic to discuss. At this stage, the students will be assessed the traits of team spirit, reasoning ability, leadership quality, flexibility, initiative, assertiveness and awareness.
  • Interview by Technical Experts: After short listing in GD, the students will be further interviewed in the core subject knowledge covering the fundamental concepts and practical application, by technical experts.
  • Final Interview by HR Experts: This is the final stage of selection process wherein, the student’s positive attitude along with communication skills, confidence level and goal setting will be assessed by HR experts.
  • Before attending for campus recruitment process, please check whether you are eligible as per the eligibility criteria as most of the companies specify 60% throughout the academics without any backlogs (i.e. SSC, Intermediate & current degree-B.Tech or M.Tech). Some of the top MNCs like Microsoft, Oracle, Amazon, Capital IQ, etc., specify 70%-80%.
