Emily Carr University of Art and Design

Founded in 1925, Emily Carr University of Art + Design is one of the oldest post-secondary institutions in British Columbia and the only one that is dedicated solely to professional education and learning in the arts, media and design. One of the University's roles is to act as an advocate for the arts and reinforce the need for public support. At every opportunity, the University promotes public understanding and appreciation of fine arts, media arts, and design for their significant impact on the well-being of our society. Emily Carr's alumni and faculty are among the most influential and important artists and designers working in their respective fields. Graduates go on to careers in a variety of fields, and are regularly accepted into graduate studies programs in major universities and art institutions around the world. Our graduate students pursue careers in many fields. In May of 2008, Emily Carr was granted university status and is now Emily Carr University of Art + Design.

    • minimum of 84 out of 120 total points including a minimum score in each of the four skills; Speaking 20/30, Reading 20/30, Writing 18/30, and Listening 20/30.

    • minimum band 6.5, with no component less than 6.0

    • Canadian Academic English Language assessment test
    • minimum level of 70 overall
  4. PTE Academic
    • Pearson Test of English Academic
    • minimum score of 56

    • minimum scale score of 176 with no individual score less than 169

    • Cambridge Proficiency Examination
    • minimum scale score of 176 with no individual score less than 169

    • Michigan English Language Assessment Battery
    • minimum level of 81
  8. CELPIP Academic Test Canadian English Proficiency Index Program
    • minimum Academic Level 4L
The minimum academic requirement for admission to Emily Carr University undergraduate programs is graduation from grade 12 secondary school, with five grade 12 subjects, including English 12 with a minimum grade of 'C', two other grade 12 academic courses and two grade 12 elective courses. The minimum overall grade point average required for admission is 2.5 or C+ or 67%. All elective courses must be grade 12 and can be Ministry Approved, Board Approved or Locally Developed.
