Department of Law, University of Calcutta

The Department of Law, University of Calcutta or Department of Law, CU is a constituent of the University of Calcutta.  It was established in 1909 as University college of Law.  It was later renamed to its present name in 1983. The college offers around two undergraduate courses and offers around 50 trust based and non-college scholarships. The college has been among the top law schools in India. It offers around 120 seats to students each year. Admission to the college is strictly through the rank achieved in the entrance test held by the University.

Campus

Library
The college library was initially housed at the College Street campus.  Currently, the library has been shifted to the 3rd floor at Hazra campus at the Department of Law, University of Calcutta. It was previously called Hazra Law Library. The library is being upgraded to the state of campus library. It consists of many old collections and rare books of the eighteenth century.
Hostel
The college boasts of 17 halls and hostels, which fall under the purview of the University of Calcutta.  The hostels can accommodate around 2000 students of the colleges as well as research scholars/fellows of the university. The University of Calcutta has dedicated and advisory body called board of residence, which looks into the management of halls and the hostels.
Placement
The college provides placement services to the students. The placement cell acts as a single point of contact between the organisations and the students. The cell not only looks into placement of the students, but also looks into the training and grooming of students for interviews.  It conducts various mock aptitude tests and seminars to help the students.
