Cotton University

Cotton College was established in 1901, the college is located in Assam. The college offers courses at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate levels. It is affiliated to Guwahati University. About 4000 students are granted admission into the college. Admission into the college is made strictly in order of merit for all the courses available, and is governed by the college admission rules.

  • Library: The Cotton College library is known as Dr. Surya Kumar Bhuyan Library, it was started in the same year of the establishment of the college. The library building is located centrally within the campus. It is conveniently accessible by the user community. The building is situated just east of the administrative building and behind the Kalaguru Bishnu Rabha Hall (Union Hall) that houses the college auditorium.
  • CRÈCHE: The crèche at Cotton College, Guwahati has been in operation since December, 2011. The University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi has granted financial assistance to Cotton College during the 11th Plan period to open a crèche. The College authority has tied up with the Green Valley Resorts Pvt. Ltd., Guwahati to run this crèche. The Cotton College Crèche is open for all.
  • Centre for Media Studies: Centre for Media Studies (CMS) is a social communication centre established as an extension service at Cotton College. The objective of CMS is to spread a mass media culture that helps people harmoniously integrate the communication media into their cultural lives. CMS conducts workshops, seminars and training programmes on variety of media related subjects throughout the year.   
  • Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC): The Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC), Cotton College was set up in 2003 with financial grants from NSTEDB, DST, Govt. of India. It is worth mentioning that Cotton College is the first non-technical college in the entire country, where DST has set up such a Cell. Today, it is the only Govt. of India recognized EDC in the entire State of Assam. Its primary aim and objective is to foster as well as promote an entrepreneurial mind set and culture among students and unemployed educated youth of this part of the country.
  • Placement Cell: Cotton College has a Placement Cell, run by a group of senior teachers of the college. A large number of companies conduct campus recruitment drives in the college. The companies that have visited the college campus include State Bank of India, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Tata Consultancy Services, IBM-Daksh Federal Bank, South Indian Bank, HSBC Bank, Wipro Technologies, Infosys, HCL, Reliance Retail Ltd., SBI Life Insurance and Vedanta Aluminium. A good number of students are recruited each year by these companies.
