California College of the Arts

The California College of the Arts, locally known as CCA, is located in San Francisco, California, USA. It was established in 1907. California College of the Arts educates students to shape culture and society through the practice and critical study of art, architecture, design, and writing. Benefitting from its San Francisco Bay Area location, the college prepares students for lifelong creative work by cultivating innovation, community engagement, and social and environmental responsibility.CCA is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), and Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA).

Admission Criteria & Eligibility

Proof of English Language Proficiency

Applicants must request an official copy of any score(s) be sent directly from the testing service to the Office of Admissions.
Test scores are valid for two years from date the test was originally taken. If more than two years have passed since taking the test, the test must be retaken
CCA's ETS/CEEB code is 4031 for TOEFL, IELTS and SAT. CCA's ACT code is 0176.
Unless English is the official language of your country, you must submit an official exam score.
TOEFL
CCA accepts paper- and Internet-based versions of the (TOEFL) exam.
International undergraduate applicants must achieve a minimum score of 550 on the PBT, or 80 on the iBT.
IELTS
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) minimum scores of 6.5 and higher.
CAE
Cambridge English: Advanced minimum score of Grade C
CEFR
Common European Framework of Reference for Languages minimum score of C1
PTE Academic
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) with a minimum score of 58 or greater.
CCA accepts certain conditions in place of the proof of English language proficiency requirement:
  1. SAT taken after March 2016: SAT Evidence-Based Reading & Writing Section: Score of 32 and above in both Writing and Language Test and the Reading Test
  2. SAT taken before March 2016: SAT Critical Reading and Writing score of 490 and greater in both sections
  3. ACT English and Reading subsections scores of 20 and greater
  4. IB English score of four and greater
  5. AP English Language score of three and greater
  6. Minimum three years' attendance at an English-speaking secondary school or a four-year college or university (excluding extended-education coursework)
  7. Completion of US-transferable coursework equivalent to English 1A (writing) and/or 1B (literature) with a grade of C or above
  8. Completion of ELS Center Level 112
  9. Completion of The Language Company - Berkeley, Level 9
  10. Please speak with your international admission counselor if you believe you should be exempted from taking the proof of English language proficiency tests.
