The United States (US)/Canada Grants are need based scholarships provided by the Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund. The number of scholarships offered to students varies every year. Scholarship Details

The scholarship amount provided varies. These scholarships are not renewable. It is applicable to postgraduate students interested in Architecture, Law, Medicine, Science, Humanities, Health Care, Education and Teaching, Journalism, Media, PR and Events, Computer Science and Information Technology, Art and Design, and Business Management.


Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, the student should:
  • Candidate should be a female
  • Have a record of commitment to improving the lives of women and children in developing countries
  • Should be resident in U.S. or Canada at the time she submits the application
  • Enrol (in residence) at an accredited U.S. or Canadian educational institution for this academic year, and intend to be enrolled for the next academic year
  • Use the grant toward the completion of her degree
  • Be a national of a lower/middle income developing member country
  • Not be a U.S. or Canadian citizen, permanent U.S. resident or Canadian landed immigrant
  • Intend to return to her country (or other developing country) within two years of completing use of the MMMF grant and perform at least two years of service
  • Demonstrate financial need and satisfactory academic performance
  • At least be 25 years old
  • Not be related to a World Bank group staff member or his/her spouse.


Application Process

The applicant should have the following documents:
  • A copy of passport picture page
  • A copy of U.S. or Canada visa/study permit
  • A copy of official transcript from the student’s current university only with the institutional seal and the registrar’s signature. If her programme is a research programme without grades, a progress report from a supervising professor must be submitted
  • An official confirmation of registration in the academic institution for current semester, with institutional seal and the registrar’s signature. Acceptance Letters are not needed and do not substitute for proof of registration/enrollment.
