About the Scholarship

Based on the Todai-IIT Comprehensive Education Exchange Program, Todai will select outstanding undergraduate students currently enrolled at any of the five Indian Institutes of Technology, i.e. IIT Delhi, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur or IIT Madras (hereinafter referred to as “the IITs”) in accordance with recommendations from the IITs and provide them with scholarships for a maximum period of four years with the expectation that this will lay the foundations of a future network of leading personnel in India and Japan.

Scholarship Details

The program will pay scholarships in Indian Rupees equivalent to 200,000 yen per year to the students. The scholarship is awarded to 8 students (2 students from each year) from each IIT annually. Scholarships are provided for a maximum period of four years with the expectation that this will lay the foundations of a future network of leading personnel in India and Japan.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible Students Students who wish to apply for the scholarship must meet all of the following requirements.
(1) The applicant must be registered undergraduate students at the IITs.
(2) The applicant must be majoring in mechanical engineering, electrical /electronic engineering, or aerospace engineering.
(3) The applicant must not be receiving any other scholarship from any domestic or foreign organization.

Application Process

(1) Application Procedure The IITs shall submit the following documents to the University of Tokyo by the end of January each year.
  1. Student scholarship application form (Form 1).
  2. Recommendation letter from the head of department or the director of the institute where the candidate is enrolled.
  3. List of scholarship candidates (Form 2), with priority of recommendation marked by each IIT.
(2) The University of Tokyo shall select the scholarship students through document review each year based on the priority of recommendation presented by the IITs.
(3) Selection Date: February each year
