Scholarship Details

Delhi, India (September 14, 2016) — Fifteen Indian students with proven academic excellence were awarded 2016 TOEFL® scholarships by Educational Testing Service (ETS). Scholarships were awarded to exceptional TOEFL test takers in India who are in pursuit of undergraduate or graduate study abroad. The scholarships are worth a total of US$105,000, US$7,000 each.Over the past five years, ETS has awarded US$415,000 to help TOEFL test takers in India further their undergraduate or graduate studies.


Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, the student:
  • Should be living in India
  • Should hold a grade point average of 80 or higher on a 100-point scale, or a 3.0 grade point average or higher on a 4-point scale
  • Should demonstrate English proficiency with a valid TOEFL score
  • Should demonstrate effective leadership skills and an overall well-rounded portfolio with extracurricular activities, including community service.

Application Process

  • Complete the initial application online
  • The deadline for the initial application is 3 August 2019*
  • If selected as a semifinalist, you will be notified and will be required to submit additional information, which is due on September month.
  • Please use program key "TIndia" to access the TOEFL Scholarship application for India.

Additional Information

Based on the initial application, 100 semifinalists will be selected. The semifinalist must exhibit:
  • An outstanding ability to communicate
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Well-rounded extracurricular activities, especially including community service
  • Innovative ideas as reflected in essays
Note: Transfer students are not eligible for the TOEFL Scholarship Program in India.
