The Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship Scheme (For Sri Lankan Students) is a merit based scholarship provided by High Commission of India, Colombo. Twenty five scholarships are offered per year. Students interested in Computer Science & Information Technology at the undergraduate level can apply for this scholarship.

Scholarship Details

The scholarship is applicable to students from Sri Lanka for studies in India. This scholarship provides:
  • A personal maintenance allowance
  • Approved tuition and exam fees
  • A grant for books and apparatus, where applicable
  • A round trip air ticket.
The scholarship is open to all undergraduate students.

Requirements

Eligibility Criteria

Students can apply irrespective of their gender. To be eligible for this scholarship, the student should:
  • Be a citizen of Sri Lanka
  • Be below 22 years of age
  • Have passed the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination conducted by the Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka, with subjects relevant to the field applicant intends to apply
  • Possess high proficiency in English
  • Be in a good medical condition and ready to live in India during the period of study
  • Not be an employee under the Government or a statutory body
  • Should not be a student already registered or following an undergraduate course at any university or a full time course of study in a state sector Higher Educational Institution in Sri Lanka.

Application Process

  • Every application should conform to the specimen form provided
  • Each student should submit only one application for award, and should state whether he/she has been nominated for a similar award in the past
  • The words “Rajiv Gandhi Scholarships 2013/14” (whatever year is applicable) should be hand or type-written on top left corner of the envelope containing the application
  • Any statement in the application, which is found to be incorrect before selection, will render the applicant liable to disqualification. If such inaccuracy is found after selection, it leads to the withdrawal of the award
  • A non-refundable payment should be made by affixing a stamp to the value of Rs. 50/- in the page provided for this purpose in the application and cancelled by the candidate's signature.
The following documents are generally required for foreign students coming to India:
  • A valid passport (minimum for six months)
  • A confirmed letter of acceptance or a provisional admission certificate from a university or a college or institution
  • A proof of availability of sufficient funds for the duration of studies in India for self-financing students
  • A health certificate and AIDS-free certificate
  • A student visa
  • A proof of long term (at least three years)/permanent residence in the country.

Additional Information

The Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship Scheme is offered by the High Commission of India in Colombo. This scholarship is awarded to Sri Lankan students to conduct undergraduate and post-graduate studies in some of the top-ranked institutions in India. It provides 25 slots every year for ‘Bachelor of Engineering’ courses in IT, in some of the top-ranked institutes in India.
