The Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) Fellowships are part of a National Programme of Fellowships in Basic Sciences, initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. These are administered by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. The fellowships are awarded to exceptionally and highly motivated students for pursuing basic science courses and career in research. For receiving a fellowship, both aptitude test and interview are required. Scholarship Details

During the 1st to 3rd years of B.Sc., B.S., integrated M.Sc. and M.S., a monthly stipend of Rs. 5000 and an annual contingency grant of Rs. 20000 are awarded. During M.Sc., 4th and 5th years of integrated M.Sc and M.S., a monthly stipend of Rs. 7000 and an annual contingency grant of Rs. 28000 are awarded. The scholarships are awarded at the undergraduate and postgraduate level. The number of scholarships awarded varies each year.

Requirements

Eligibility Criteria

Stream SA: Students enrolled in XI Standard (Science Subjects) during the academic year 2016-17 and having secured a minimum of 80% (70% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in the X Standard Board examination. The fellowship of the students selected under this stream will be activated only if they join an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences (B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S.) in the academic year 2018-19 after having secured a minimum of  60% (50%for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in Science subjects in the XII standard/(+2) Board Examination. During the interim period of one year they will be invited for Regional /National (Vijyoshi) Science Camp and their travel and other related expenses will be met by KVPY.

Stream SX: Students enrolled in XII Standard/ (+2) (Science subjects) during the academic year 2016–17 and aspiring to join undergraduate program in Basic Sciences namely Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology leading to  B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. for the session 2017–18 provided they have secured a minimum of 80% (70% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the X Standard Board Examination and a minimum of  60% (50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in aggregate in SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology) in the XII standard Board Examination.

Application

Application Process

Each stream has its own application form. Students may apply either by hard copy or online (http://www.kvpy.org.in/). Those who are unable to apply online may request for a hard copy. A hard copy of the application form can be obtained from KVPY on request, enclosing therewith the paid “Bank Challan/ Pay-in-slip” (available at: http://www.kvpy.org.in/), clearly indicating the stream SA/SX/SB on the envelope.

A processing fee of Rs. 500/- may be remitted at any core banking branch of State Bank of India to the credit of “Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) A/c. No. 10270577392”). Students belonging to SC/ST categories, or who are physically and visually challenged, or are female, do not have to pay the processing fee. The completed application form along with the following documents, super scribing on the envelope the scheme applied for, should reach the KVPY office on or before the deadline:
  • Caste certificate issued by a competent authority in the prescribed proforma in the case of SC/ST students
  • Medical certificate from the prescribed authority in case of physically and visually challenged students
  • Copy of the marks statement of the qualifying examination(s)
  • The original Pay-in-slip of Rs. 500/- if applicable.

Additional Information

Selection Procedure
After scrutinizing the applications forms based on the performance in the Board Examination, all the eligible students are called for a written aptitude test conducted both in Hindi and English at different centres across the country. The details of the venue of the aptitude test for the eligible students and their seat number are published at the KVPY website during the first week of October.

Admit Card
Students who have applied online may download the admit card for the aptitude test from the website from the second week of October. For students who have applied with a hard copy, admit card are sent by speed post.

Interview
Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students are invited for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure.
