The Lanza Scholarship program targets part-time, full-time and international students�who have completed 50 percent of their course work�toward an associate degree�in nursing, emergency medical services or respiratory care programs offered by regionally accredited community colleges. Phi Theta Kappa membership is not part of the application or judging criteria;�however, the majority of the 2012 recipients were Society members.�A panel of independent judges selected the recipients by application based on academic and leadership�endeavors as well as community service.

Scholarship Details

Jackson, MS - Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC),�with the generous support of CAE Healthcare and L-3 Communications, Inc.,�have awarded $50,000 in scholarships�to the 2012 Frank Lanza Scholars. Twenty community college students were selected�to receive up to $2,500 each for completion of associate degrees.


Requirements

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, the applicant:
  • Need not necessarily be a member of Phi Theta Kappa
  • Must have completed at least 50 percent of course work in an associate degree registered nursing, respiratory care or emergency medical services programme by June
  • Must submit verification if selected for the scholarship
  • Must provide documentation of enrolment in a minimum of six semester hours for the fall semester
  • Should be classified as a part-time student, full-time student or international student
  • Should have previous associate, bachelor's or master's degrees
  • Must complete the Institutional Certification and Eligibility Form by the application deadline
  • Must post a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average out of a possible 4.0 on all course work at the time of application, with no courses marked as incomplete
  • Must hold temporary or permanent residency in the country of the community college the student is attending or possess a visa considered appropriate by the college
  • Should be free from suspension, probation or other disciplinary action
  • Should be free from any criminal conduct or if the applicant is a convicted felon, he or she must have completed all conditions of sentencing, including probation.

Application Process

To apply for the scholarship, students will have to complete and submit a Spring Common Application online no later than May 15th 2015. The application and accompanying materials should not be submitted by fax or email. Partial materials, even if submitted before the deadline, are deemed ineligible.
