The Frank Lanza Memorial Scholarships recognize the outstanding academic and leadership accomplishments of students who are enrolled in regionally accredited community college programmes in registered nursing, respiratory care or emergency medical services. They are awarded by the CAE Healthcare, AACC and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society to international students who wish to pursue undergraduate or postgraduate studies at US universities. Around 20 scholarships are awarded each year.

Scholarship Details

Up to 20 scholarships of $2,500 each are awarded, making a total amount of $50,000 each year. All scholarships are disbursed as one payment, taking place upon confirmation of the recipient's enrolment to a minimum of six semester hours at a regionally accredited community college in an eligible degree programme. If a student is selected for the scholarship, full details are provided to him/her along with the winner notification materials.


Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this scholarship, the applicant:
  • Need not necessarily be a member of Phi Theta Kappa
  • Must have completed at least 50 percent of course work in an associate degree registered nursing, respiratory care or emergency medical services programme by June
  • Must submit verification if selected for the scholarship
  • Must provide documentation of enrolment in a minimum of six semester hours for the fall semester
  • Should be classified as a part-time student, full-time student or international student
  • Should have previous associate, bachelor's or master's degrees
  • Must complete the Institutional Certification and Eligibility Form by the application deadline
  • Must post a minimum of a 3.0 cumulative grade point average out of a possible 4.0 on all course work at the time of application, with no courses marked as incomplete
  • Must hold temporary or permanent residency in the country of the community college the student is attending or possess a visa considered appropriate by the college
  • Should be free from suspension, probation or other disciplinary action
  • Should be free from any criminal conduct or if the applicant is a convicted felon, he or she must have completed all conditions of sentencing, including probation.


Application Process

To apply for the scholarship, students will have to complete and submit a Spring Common Application online no later than May 15th 2015. The application and accompanying materials should not be submitted by fax or email. Partial materials, even if submitted before the deadline, are deemed ineligible.
