About Kerala Engineering Agricultural Medical

KEAM, short for Kerala Engineering Agricultural Medical is an entrance examination series for admissions to various professional degree courses in the state of Kerala, India. It is conducted by the Office of the Commissioner of Entrance Exams run by the Government of Kerala.
The Programmes are offered in:
  • Medical: BAMS, NHMS & BDMS
  • Agriculture: B.Sc Hons. (Agriculture), B.Sc Hons. (Forestry)
  • Veterinary: BVSc. & AH
  • Fisheries: BFSc.
  • Engineering: B.Tech. [including B.Tech. (Agri. Engg.), B.Tech. (Food Engg.) Courses under the Kerala Agricultural University and B.Tech. (Dairy Science & Tech.) under the Kerala Veterinary & Animal Sciences University]
  • Architecture: B.Arch (Allotment & Admission Only)
KEAM admission test is conducted for two days consecutively. The Test consists of multiple choice questions. There are two papers:1st Paper: Chemistry & Physics
2nd Paper: Mathematics & Biology. The question paper will be in English and duration of the exam is 2hours 30 minutes

Eligibility

  • Only Indian citizens are eligible for admission to professional courses
  • Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)/Overseas citizen of India (OCI) are also treated at par with Indian citizens for purposes limited to only admission
  • However PIO/OCI candidates are not eligible for any kind of reservation
  • Candidates seeking admission to professional courses are categorized as Keralite, Non-Keralite Category-I (NK-I) and Non-Keralite Category-II (NK-II)
  • A candidate of Kerala origin is categorized as a Keralite
  • Children of All India Service (AIS) officers (Non-Keralites) allotted to Kerala cadre are deemed to be Keralites
  • A candidate who is not of Kerala origin but fulfils anyone of the following conditions is categorised as Non-Keralite Category-I (NK-I)
  • A candidate who has undergone qualifying course in Kerala and who is son/daughter of Non-Keralite parents belong to Govt of India/Defence Service, posted to Kerala
  • A candidate who has undergone qualifying course in Kerala and who is son/daughter of Non-Keralite parents who are serving/served Govt of Kerala for a minimum period of two years
  • A candidate who is not of Kerala origin but has been a resident of Kerala state for a period of 5 (five) years within the period of 12 (twelve) years
  • A candidate who is not of Kerala origin but who has undergone his/her school studies in Kerala from standard VIII to XII
  • Non-Keralite category-I candidates are considered against state merit seats for Engineering/Medical and Allied courses
  • Candidates who do not come under Keralite or Non-Keralite Category-I are categorised as Non-Keralite Category-II
  • Such candidates are only eligible for admission to engineering courses in management quota seats in Govt controlled self financing colleges and Govt seats in private self financing engineering colleges

MBBS/BDS Courses:

  • The criteria of eligibility (academic) is notified by the NTA for the NEET
  • National eligibility-cum-entrance test (NEET) is conducted by NTA for admission to MBBS/BDS courses
  • All candidates desirous of being considered for admission to MBBS/BDS courses should appear for the NEET-(UG)

BAMS/BSMS/BHMS: 

  • Candidates who have passed higher secondary examination of the board of higher secondary education, Kerala, or examinations recognized equivalent thereto, with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology put together, are eligible
  • In the absence of Biology, Biotechnology will be considered for the courses BAMS and BSMS

B.Sc Hon (Agri)/B.Sc Hon (Forestry)/BFSc Courses: 

  • Candidates who have passed higher secondary examination of the Board of higher secondary education, Kerala, or examinations recognised equivalent thereto, with 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology put together, are eligible

BVSc & AH Course:

  • Candidates should have secured not less than 50% aggregate marks in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology for the qualifying examination

Engineering Courses:

  • Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala, or examinations recognised as equivalent thereto, with 50% marks in Mathematics separately, and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together are eligible for admission
  • In case, the candidate has not studied Chemistry, the marks obtained in Computer Science shall be considered
  • In case, the candidate has not studied Chemistry and Computer Science, the marks obtained in Biotechnology shall be considered
  • In case, the candidate has not studied Chemistry, Computer Science and Biotechnology, the marks obtained in Biology shall be considered
  • Candidates who have Diploma in Engineering, or an examination recognised equivalent thereto, by the State Board of Technical Education after undergoing an institutional course of at least 3 years from an Institution approved by AICTE, securing a minimum of 50% marks in the final year Diploma Examination are eligible for admission
  • Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala, or examinations recognised as equivalent thereto, with 50% marks in Mathematics/Biology separately, and 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/Biology put together are eligible for admission to the seats reserved for Dairy Farm Instructors of Dairy Development Department for B.Tech (D.Sc & Tech)

Architecture Course:

  • Minimum academic eligibility for admission to B.Arch, 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognised board with Mathematics as a subject of study by securing 50% marks in aggregate; or 10+3 Diploma (any stream) recognised by Central/State Govt with 50% aggregate marks; or International Baccalaureate Diploma, after 10 years of schooling, with not less than 50% marks in aggregate and with Mathematics as compulsory subject of examination
  • Candidates who score 40% or 80 marks out of 200 (for all categories of candidates) in the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) are considered for admission to B.Arch course
  • There is no relaxation in the minimum passing score of NATA to any category of candidate
  • There is no provision for lateral admission to the second year or at any stage during the 5 year course in Architecture
  • Candidates who have a diploma in engineering awarded by the board of technical examinations, or an examination recognized equivalent thereto, by the state board of technical education after undergoing an institutional course of at least 3 years from an Institution approved by AICTE securing a minimum of 50% marks in the final year Diploma Examination are eligible for admission to B.Arch course

Application Process

  • Online submission of application on website
  • Online submission of application is required to apply for the entrance examination for admission to all the courses (Medical, Engineering and Architecture)
  • Candidate can pay application fee in either of the two methods
  • Security card and prospectus can be obtained from selected post offices in Kerala and outside the State, on payment of the prescribed fee by cash
  • Application fee can be paid by way of demand draft drawn on a Nationalised/Scheduled Bank, in favour of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, payable at Thiruvananthapuram
  • Candidates should send the signed printout of the online submitted application along with the necessary certificates and documents to Office of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, 5th Floor, Housing Board Buildings, Santhi Nagar, Thiruvananthapuram-69500.
  • Candidates choosing 'Dubai' as Examination Centre have to remit an additional fee with a Demand Draft (DD) drawn on a Nationalised Bank, in favour of the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, payable at Thiruvananthapuram along with the application.
  • Such candidates should give a local contact number, if available, in their application in the appropriate place. If the additional fee is not paid by the candidates in the form of demand draft along with the application, they are allotted a center within the country.

Preparation Tips

To secure a good rank in the entrance test is very important to prepare accordingly. It is recommended that students obtain complete clarity on the examination pattern and then make a clear preparation plan. One should give themselves an entire year to prepare for the examination. Refer to previous years question papers, reference books and enroll in a coaching institute.
