Admission Criteria & Eligibility

To gain admission into the esteemed Washington University in St.Louis undergraduate programme:
International Student Requirements:
The successful completion of a minimum of 12 years of primary and secondary studies is required for admission to any program of study leading to a bachelor’s degree at Washington University.A secondary school diploma or equivalent is required.If you apply for admission, you will need to submit detailed information about your previous education, including:
  1. Original academic transcripts or certified copies
  2. A description of the grading system
  3. Examination results (IGCSE, HKCEE, predicted A-Levels, national exams, etc.)
  4. School-leaving certificates
  5. Academic records must include:
  6. Transcripts of all work completed at the secondary school level
  7. Transcripts of formal studies completed beyond secondary school (when appropriate)
  8. Subjects covered during each year of study (the specific month and year)
  9. Duration of time of each course
  10. Number of lectures or laboratory periods included within each course
  11. Grades (marks) received 

English Testing Requirements:
Either TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is required of all international students for whom English is a second language and recommended for U.S. citizens or permanent residents whose second language is English.Students who have achieved one of the following exam results will be exempted from the English-testing requirement, once scores are received by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions: 

  1. A score of 650 or higher on the Evidence-Based Reading & Writing (ERW) section of the new SAT or a score of 600 or higher on the Critical Reading section of the old SAT.
  2. An ACT English score of at least 29. 
  3. Requests for waivers based on other exceptional circumstances will be considered.
  4. Any of the following students who wish to strengthen their academic credentials are welcome to submit the TOEFL or IELTS results:
  • Those who receive a waiver of the TOEFL/IELTS requirement.
  • Those who speak any language other than English at home. 

     The tests administered in December 2017 will be the last ones accepted for fall 2018 admission (October if applying Early Decision).
