Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT Nagpur)

Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, or VNIT, NIT Nagpur is a publicly owned engineering institute located in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The institute was founded in 1960 as Regional College of Engineering for Nagpur. However, the board of governors renamed the college after Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya as Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering.  The institute was granted NIT status under the NIT act in 2002, and is now called Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology.  The institute offers around 9 undergraduate courses and is home to around 3,000 students and offers around 50 trust based and non-college scholarships. VNIT also mentors NIT Mizoram, which was set up in 2009, and initially classes were held at VNIT before the Mizoram campus was built.  The institute is not easy to get into, as admission is subject to the rank scored in the JEE-Mains.

VNIT Ranked as 31st position In the Category of Engineering & Technology for the year 2018 By NIRF Rankings. VNIT has been ranked by Outlook Magazine in the top 18th engineering colleges of India. Admission into this Institute is pretty tough.
Selection process
Admission to the institute is based on the rank one scores in the JEE-Main, which usually takes place in May.  The other criteria include 60% in 10+2, with PCM.  The college reserves 50% seats for local students and 50% for others.  Once selected, classes usually begin in the month of July.
Location
VNIT is located in Nagpur (The best city to live in 2013, according to ABP news). The institute’s departments are housed among a semi-urban and wonderfully maintained 220 acre campus.  The campus is housed in the heart of the city with many hang out spots around for students like cafes, restaurants, and even some pubs.  Although most students of the institute stay at the campus, the location allows for cheap housing in the vicinity of the institute.  The campus is located around 8 kms from the railway station and 18 kms from the airport and has excellent connectivity to all parts of the city.

Training and Placement

The Training and Placement Department of Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology aims to provide students with a platform for using their technical acumen to gain valuable experience by working in the mainstream industry. It also acts as an interface for Companies seeking talented young graduates and post-graduates in various disciplines.
The Training and Placement Department provides necessary guidance to the students for career planning and personality development. In this regard workshops on soft skills development are being arranged. In addition to this various online test modules on technical knowledge, general aptitude, etc. are also conducted. Orientation program for placements, career guidance seminars on Higher Education in India & Foreign countries are organized to help the students for planning their careers.
