Established in 2003 through UPES Act, 2003 of the State Legislature of Uttarakhand , UPES is an UGC recognized and NAAC accredited University. UPES offers specialized  B.Tech, BBA, B.A, , B.Des, LL.B courses at undergraduate level and  M.Tech, MBA, M.A, LLM programs at post-graduate level. These courses cater to high-growth areas like cloud computing, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, aerospace engineering, mechatronics engineering, fine arts, big data analytics, public administration, machine design engineering, computer science, petroleum, graphic and gaming and many more.
UPES campus in Dehradun, which is amongst the most beautiful campuses in India, sprawls over 44 acres with world class academic infrastructure, multimedia enabled classrooms, modern research labs, playing fields, food courts, hostels and other facilities for all curricular and extra-curricular activities of students. Accreditations & Recognitions
  1. UPES is recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 UGC is a statutory body of the Government of India, established in 1956 through an Act of Parliament for coordination, determination, and maintenance of standards of university education in India.
  2. University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) was established in 2003 through UPES Act, 2003 of the State Legislature of Uttarakhand and functions under the ambit of its Act, Statutes, and Rules.
  3. UPES is accredited (B Grade) by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), which is an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission of India to access and accredit institutions of Higher Education in India.
  4. The University has a system of assuring quality of teaching and related processes. It is accredited by University Grants Commission (UGC) / National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), since 2009 and has a permanent Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).

Infrastructure
UPES campus is located in the sylvan surroundings of the Pondha valley at the foothills of the Himalayas in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, offering an environment conducive to academic, personal and professional growth.
 
Laboratories : 
  • There are 82 laboratories at UPES for domain specific  practical learning as well as research and development activities.  
  • There are 7 innovative outdoor labs for sector specific  learning and practice. The labs cater to various fields such as  pure sciences, engineering, advanced engineering as well as sector specific requirements. As new courses keep on adding to the list of program offerings, the infrastructure is also upgraded and new labs are added to accommodate the learning requirements.
Open Labs :
  • The only university to have an actual MIG23 on campus.
  • Fire Safety Training Ground.
  • The only university to have a Tatra Truck on campus.
  • Solar Installation with 100KWp installed capacity.
  • The only university to have an Oil Rig on campus.
  • Wind Mill, 1 KW Wind Turbine Mill has been installed on campus to generate clean energy.
Classrooms :
  • The classrooms in the campus are furnished with the latest technology like LCD projectors, wireless mikes & speakers, black/white boards, WiFi connectivity and attendance card reader machines.
  • There are approximately 100 multimedia enabled lecture halls which provide healthy student & teacher interaction.
IT Labs :​
  • UPES campus is fully WiFi and have a advanced computing centre on campus with a network of 7000+ computers with state of the art IT Infrastructure
  • UPES have academic alliances with Microsoft Corporation and Sun Micro Systems.
  • There is a highly skilled IT support team for maintenance of University’s IT resources.
Library :
  • UPES have an on campus 3 floor Library with a seating capacity of 400+ gives access to over 70,000+ publications, including books, standards, reports & proceedings.     
  • There are more than 125 national & international technical journals.
  • There is also an e-enabled student –teacher interaction based learning management system.
  • Students can get access to specialized portals on Oil & Gas , Power, and other sector related information.
Hostels :
  • UPES currently have a on campus hostel facility for boys only with a capacity of 555 beds.  All essential needs outlets including General Stores, Stationery, Laundry, Unisex Saloon are there on the campus.
  • The hostel facility is availed on a first come first serve basis.
Cafeteria/Food Courts :
  • UPES have an on campus 3 floor food court which offer North Indian, South Indian and all other major regional cuisines apart from regular snacks to the students.
  • Apart from the food court there is also a NESCAFE cafeteria which offer various beverages to the students.
  • Proper care is taken to ensure hygiene and quality in terms of food and cooking/ serving area cleanliness.
Sports Facility :
  • UPES have a well maintained multi-purpose sports ground for Cricket, Football , Handball & Athletics.
  • There is professionally constructed Volleyball & Basketball court. Apoart from outdoor sports facilities there are proper facilities for indoor games such as Table Tennis, Chess & Carrom.
  • UPES teams participate regualry at State level sports competitions and other sporting events across India & Abroad
Transport Facility :
  • Students who are living in Dehradun city and willing to avail transportation facility to the UPES campus can avail the same by paying yearly fees of Rs.17,500 per year.
  • Students living on campus hostels are provided to and fro transportation facility to the city once a week without paying any additional fee.
Medical Facility :
  • University provides medical facilities to the students and has a full time doctor on role to provide first aid facilities to the students.

The Office of Career Services works closely with the industry to develop & support collaborative Industry-Academia Interface and facilitates Placements & Internships for all students.
