Sophia Shree Basant Kumar Somani Polytechnic

Sophia Shree B K Somani Memorial Polytechnic or the Sophia Shree Basant Kumar Somani Polytechnic is located on Bhulabhai Desai Road in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It offers around two undergraduate courses in Art and Hospitality. The polytechnic is affiliated to University of Mumbai and was established in 1970 by the Society of the Sacred Heart, an international congregation of religious sisters dedicated to the cause of educating women. Admission into the college is on the basis of academics, i.e. marks obtained in 10+2 or equivalent examination, along with aptitude tests and personal interviews. Classes begin in the month of July.

Campus
The polytechnic has a fairly good infrastructure. It has a computer lab with technologically advanced equipment, latest machines, cable internet service and a reference library. Photography students are provided with professionally equipped black and white darkrooms, studios for setting up photo shoots, a wide range of professional lenses, tungsten lighting, channel system, and all chemicals required for darkroom work.

A centrally air-conditioned auditorium with a seating capacity of around 850, an air-conditioned audio-visual Room, a canteen provides, a well-stocked shop, photocopying facilities, and a gymnasium are also present on campus.
Hostel
The hostel is situated on the fourth floor of the polytechnic and can accommodate around 45 students. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food is provided. The hostel has a common room where students can relax and entertain themselves. The hostel commands a beautiful view of the Arabian Sea. Accommodation is provided on the basis of a personal interview. The hostel provides rooms on a sharing basis with 2 to 3 roommates.
