Shri Shikshayatan College

Shri Shikshayatan College is situated on Lord Sinha Road at Elgin in Kolkata, West Bengal. It offers around 20 undergraduate courses in Business Management, Education, Humanities, Sciences and Journalism. The college was founded on 8th July, 1955 for girls under the affiliation of the University of Calcutta. It was established by the Marwaris; a linguistic minority. Currently, it is administered and managed by Shikshayatan Foundation (formerly known as Marwari Balika Vidyalaya Society - registered under the Societies Registration Act) which runs it solely for educational and not for commercial purposes. Admission into the college is on the basis of academics, i.e. marks obtained in 10+2 or equivalent examination. Classes begin in the month of July.

Infrastructure
The college provides the best infrastructure to promote learning and well being amongst its students. It is entirely air-conditioned. The gymnasium and air-conditioned common room provide facilities for indoor games such as table tennis, carrom, etc. Members of the Students’ Union organise the common room activities. An internet room with personal computers is open for students’ use.
Library
The college has an air conditioned computerised open access library. The library has a collection of about 38,000 books apart from various journals, magazines and news papers. It has internet facilities for the students. In addition, there is a seminar library in each department for ready access to books. A book bank facility is also available for underprivileged students.
Placements
The college has a Career Counselling and Placement Cell. It has tie ups with Gateway Jobs & Careers Private Limited for providing general career guidance and counselling, guidance in preparing CVs, uploading CVs on popular job web-sites, prospecting, and for notifying job opportunities in and around Kolkata. Subsidized paid services are offered optionally to students. These services include individual career guidance using psychometric tests, arrangements for job interview calls and a ten-hour capsule course on basic communication skills, grooming, group discussion, interview skills, letter-writing skills, presentations & public speaking skills.
