Scottish Church College

Scottish Church College is located at Urquhart Square, Kolkata, West Bengal. It offers around 15 undergraduate courses in business management, Humanities, Science and computer Science. The college was established in 1830 as the General Assembly's Institution and was given its present name in 1929. It was founded by Rev. Alexander Duff, the first missionary to India from the Church of Scotland.

It is the second oldest college in North Calcutta and is now owned and administered by the Church of North India (CNI) through the diocese of Calcutta. It is affiliated to the University of Calcutta. Admission into the college is on the basis of 10+2 or equivalent examination. Classes begin in the month of July. The college has been accredited with Grade A by the NAAC. It has also been awarded the status of College with Potential for Excellence, a quality rating by the University Grants Commission.

Campus

Campus and Facilities
The college has a beautiful campus that is neat and well maintained. It has a large playing field and pavilion, situated on Canal East Road, off Manicktolla Main Road. The ground is intended for the use of the students of the college. The college also has a gymnasium and facilities for physical exercise are arranged for all women students of the college. Regular classes in gymnastics and games are also held. The college also has a resourceful library.
General Library:
The college has a well- equipped automated library containing more than 1,18,000 books and 13402 journals. It serves as the hive of academic activities for students, scholars and faculty members in the pursuit of excellence in their respective area of academic pursuits. The library is fully automated with the utilisation of the LIBSYS software. Internet access from the library is available with a small number of computers for staff and students for searching digitized catalogues. Access to online journals and bibliographic databases is provided to the faculty members through the UGC Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET). The efforts to transform into a fully digital library are underway.
College Magazine:
The College Magazine is publised annually. Students and staff are expected to contribute articles, paintings, photographic entries etc. to it.
Students' Activity Clubs:
Students are encouraged to participate in extra curricular activities and showcase their talents by becoming members of the various clubs, viz, Nature Study & Photography Club, Budding Painters' Club, Debating Society, Literary Society, Western & Indian Music Club, Dance & Drama Club. They are also trained by these various clubs to participate in various inter-college fests and cultural events.
Medical Facilities:
On Campus medical facilities are available for the staff and the students once a week in collaboration with the Leprosy Mission Hospital, Manicktala. They also provide emergency services.
Internet Facility:
Internet facility is available for the students of the college. Detailed information is available with the librarian. Students have access to Jstor and Inflibnet.

Hostels
The college has five hostels, namely – the Lady Jane Dundas Hostel (for girls), the Duff Hostel, the Wann Hostel, the Ogilvie Hostel and the Students' Residence (for girls). The Lady Jane Dundas Hostel and the Duff Hostel are primarily for Christian students. The hostels are located outside the college campus at various locations in Kolkata.

Given the present day competitive job scenario, where it has become imperative for the students to possess not only sound academic knowledge but also, effective soft skills and the requisite mentoring, the College Placement Cell has successfully provided opportunities for employment to its outgoing students.
Many students are selected in different companies & they join after completion of their graduation. Apart from this Placement Cell regularly organizes Seminars/Workshops/Grooming Sessions for the students to upgrade their skills & make them industry friendly.
