Ramnarain Ruia College

Ramnarain Ruia College is located in the central part of Mumbai close to Hindu colony, between the Dadar and Matunga railway station adjacent to Podar College. It offers around 35 undergraduate courses. The college was established in 1937 and was the first college in Mumbai to be started by the Shikshana Prasaraka Mandali, Pune. It is affiliated to University of Mumbai. Selection for admission into the college is according to university norms.

Ranking Explanation
The college was ranked 21st  for Science courses, 31st for Humanities courses  in India by the India Today magazine in the year 2016.
Campus Infrastructure and Facilities
The building of the college was built in 1937 and is one of the finest examples of vintage architecture with well managed infrastructure. There are no playgrounds and the campus is fairly small. Students of the college hangout in the quadrangle inside the college and at the ‘katta’ that is located outside the campus. The college library has a reading hall with a capacity of 400 students. The college also houses a large auditorium with a seating capacity of 400 students. Another small auditorium with video projection facilities is also present.

Gymkhana:
More and more people are turning to sports to provide the most memorable moments of their lives with sportsmanship attitude but, now a day’s sportsmanship has all but, disappeared from the sporting world and need of win has become too much doctrine and players are lacking in determination and will power. Ruia is working with the spirit and pursuit of the excellence to nurture the world class sportsman by providing instructional and infrastructure facilities. It has a sports culture and ring to keep it up higher and higher.
Foreign Language Centre:
  • Offers certificate courses in Japanese, Spanish, Chinese, German & French in affordable fees Syllabus is designed by the experts as per the international standards 
  • Encourages students to give International exams Many students have taken up careers in foreign language

Crowd and Hangout
The crowd at Ramnarain Ruia College is diverse and students come from various socio-economic backgrounds and cities. Most of the students are academically inclined and the crowd is well disciplined. Students mingle with students from other colleges such as Podar. Students can hang out at the katta outside the college premises. Other hangouts include popular food joints such as Cafe Gulshan, Sherry’s, Snow Point, etc.
Library
The library at Ramnarain Ruia College was set up in 1937. It has around 120,000 books including bound volumes of periodicals. It subscribes to various national and international journals. The library collection also has non-print material. There are many microfilms, audio cassettes, CDs & DVDs in its collection, which are fairly useful for visually-challenged students. The library also has reading halls and a Rare Books Section. All bibliographic details of books and journals are accessible through the campus-wide LAN.
Placement
The college has a dedicated placement cell that looks into the placement needs of the students. On-campus placements are held annually and arrangements are made for the same by the college. Students have been placed at several reputed companies.
