R.A.Podar College Of Commerce and Economics

RA Podar College of Arts and Commerce or Ramniranjan Anandilal Podar College of Commerce and Economics, popularly known as Podar College, is affiliated to the University of Mumbai. It is located at L. N. Road at Matunga, Mumbai. It offers around 3 undergraduate courses in commerce and management studies. The college was established in 1940 by Shikshana Prasaraka Mandali trust, Pune. Admission into the college is strictly on the basis of overall merit. A certain percentage of seats are reserved for SC, ST and other category students.

Ranking Explanation
The college was ranked 11th for Commerce courses in India by the India Today magazine in the year 2014. It has moved 4 places down from its previous year’s ranking of 8th. It was ranked 14th in 2010, 12th in 2009, 21st in 2008, and 24th in 2007 by India Today.
Campus Infrastructure
The college is one of the oldest in the area and therefore, the infrastructure is not modern. The building is designed in British style with a beautiful frontal elevation. The classrooms are fairly good, but not great. The reading hall has a capacity of 400 students. Adequate fans, desks, chairs and lights are provided in the classrooms. Some classes are air-conditioned and equipped with LCD projectors.he infrastructure supports the conduct of various academic programmes run by the College. The rooms are made available for the conduct of lectures. The facilities available with respect to the electronic and audio visual devices also support the conduct of academic programmes in an appropriate manner. The reading hall with a capacity of four hundred students adequately supports the academic requirements of the students. The classrooms are well equipped with adequate fans, tube lights, desks and chairs to enable a conducive environment for academic exchange through lectures. A few air-conditioned classrooms are available which are equipped with LCD projector.
Crowd and Hangout
The crowd at RA Podar College is outgoing and friendly. Students of the college bond with students from nearby colleges such as Welingkar and Ruia. There are many food joints near the college for hanging out. Some of the common food joints include Snow Point, DP’s, Sherry’s, etc. There are so many food joints in the college vicinity that if one wished to hang out every day of the week; he/she would still need more than a month to finish exploring all the food joints.
 
Placements
The college Placement Cell works towards providing recruitment to the students pursuing B.Com, BMS and M.Com at the College. The placement cell also caters to the ex-students of the college. Every year, the placement team makes tremendous effort to bring the most esteemed companies of India to the college campus and also to ensure that the maximum number of students is recruited each year.
