National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur (NIT Hamirpur)

The National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur (NIT Hamirpur) is located in the Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh. It offers around 6 undergraduate courses. The college was established in 1986 as the Regional Engineering College, as a joint enterprise of the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh.

In 2002, it was awarded the status of a deemed-to-be university and was upgraded into an NIT. Admission into the college is on the basis of JEE, conducted by CBSE. The test is conducted in April and results are declared by May. Classes generally begin in July. In terms of infrastructure, it was adjudged by the World Bank as the best NIT.

Selection Process
Admission into the institute is based on the rank scored in JEE-Main, which usually takes place in May.  The other criteria include 60% in 10+2, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as subjects.  The college reserves 50% seats for local students and 50% for others.  Once selected, classes usually begin in the month of July.
Campus
The campus is situated at an altitude of 900 metres above sea level. It is a residential institute and has seven boys' hostels and one girls' hostel. Some hostels are four-seated or triple-seated, while others are doublets and singlets. The college celebrates Hill Fair and Nimbus cultural and technical festivals. Sports, gym and internet facilities are provided at the hostels. Workshops, presentations and demonstrations are conducted by GLUG NITH (GNU/Linux User Group of NIT Hamirpur).
Facilities
The college has a Computer Centre that manages the computing and communication facilities throughout the campus. The college’s central library, which was set up in 1986, is housed in a separate building. Its reading halls have a seating capacity of 500 and the audio-visual hall has a seating capacity of 100. The college also provides sports facilities for indoor and outdoor games including cricket, lawn tennis, football, basketball, badminton, volleyball and table tennis.
Placements
Training & Placement department was established in this institute in the year 1995. Since then lots of activities are being conducted within the ambit of this department for the benefit of students.Every year, more than 50 reputed companies including MNC's visit NIT HamirpurMore than 75% of total students placed under campus placement.Recruitment for every batch starts from August onwards.Above 30% of students are getting more than one placement.Almost all eligible students are placed in companies of International and National repute under campus placement.
