M.O.P. Vaishnav College for Women

Sri Vallabhacharya Vidya Sabha, the prominent managing body of D.G Vaishnav College, in its silver jubilee year, collaborated with Dewan Bahadur M. O. Parthasarathy Iyengar Charities for the establishment of this women’s college in 1992, a dream realisation and the result of the determination and sustained efforts of the two trusts. Both these organisations have eminent industrialists, administrators and people committed to the cause of women’s education.Since its inception, the college has been committed to attracting and supporting top calibre women students providing them the right arenas for higher education. From a humble beginning with 3 courses in under graduation (B.Com, B.B.A. & B.Sc. Maths), the college today has over 15 UG & 7 PG courses plus a dedicated Research programme in the Department of Commerce. The college, affiliated to the University of Madras, has strength of 3,030 students. The college was reaccredited in 2016 by The National Assessment & Accreditation Council with an ‘A’ grade and a 3.56 CGPA on a 4 point scale.

Student Life
Around 12 student managed clubs actively function in the college. Some of the popular clubs include the Druckers Progeny Club (Business Administration), the Busi Bee Club (Accounting & Finance), the Kotlerz Klan (Marketing Management), and the Prakriti Club (Food Science Management). In addition to the clubs, students also participate in cultural associations and service-oriented groups. The college publishes several journals annually.
Cultural Activities
The college hosts two annual cultural events – ‘Jhankar’ and ‘Abhilasha’. Abhilasha is a three-day event held for freshmen. It serves as an ice breaker for the freshmen and helps in bringing out their talents. Jhankar is the annual cultural extravaganza event that features dance, music and various other art forms. This event includes intra-mural and inter-collegiate competitions and a non-competitive show.
Community Initiatives
The college regularly engages its faculty and students in community service. Students are required to complete 90 hours of community service, which is inbuilt in the curriculum. The college’s community radio hosts the Vazhi Kaatugirom career guidance programme to help 10th and 12th standard students choose their careers. Various other programmes include Payanangal Puthiyathu, Star of the week, Young Talents and Penne Unakkaga among several others.
