Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research

JIPMER or Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research is located in Pondicherry (formally Puducherry), a union territory town in southern India. It offers three undergraduate courses. JIPMER originated as École de Médicine de Pondichérry established by the French Government in 1823. It was converted into Dhanvantari Medical College during the de facto transfer of Pondicherry to Government of India. It was later upgraded into Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER). Admission into JIPMER is on the basis of academic merit and entrance test.

The College Is Ranked As 6th Position in the Year 2018 By NIRF. and also ranked as 6th Position in the Year of 2017 By Outlook.The college was ranked 3rd among medical colleges in India by the India Today magazine in the year 2012. It has moved 4 places up from its previous year’s ranking of 7th. It was ranked 4th in 2010, 2009, 2008 and 2007 by India Today.
Library
The Central Library at JIPMER was established in 1957. The library’s Issuance Section has more than 3,500 books. The Reference Section has over 3,000 books. It also has an Old Books Section with more than 6,000 books. The library also provides book bank services to SC/ST students on term basis.
